I think jimbo and myself have past each other many many times. I have also been fishing nueces river for the past 43 years. I remember putting in at the boat ramp under the old metal bridge with the wood planks. last year was a very trying year. haven't made it down yet with my canoe but planning to go week after the superbowl. hopefully will have a decent report.

Hi!
I went to 59 last year, lake pulled the plug, had to drag my Jon boat bout two miles back the boat ramp at 59...do you know or anyone you know, know if the water is high enough to launch my 19' bluewave?? I would love to go if need be that far towards ghe lake to drop lights in the water for some night fishing, used to be real good for a mix of whites and crappie...

Sure would appreciate the information!
Thank you!

Tony

Well I finally made it down to the Nueces River today. I launched my 18 ft. Nitro Bay Boat at the Hwy 59 bridge. Put in around 10.00 am. Water temp was from 59.5 to 63 degrees. Lots of water. I headed down river towards the lake about 5 to 6 miles. I caught and released 4 white bass from 10 to 14 inches all males. 3 were caught on 1/4 oz Rattle Trap. Chrome with blue back. 1 caught on Rapala SR-5 in silver. It was nice to be on the Nueces again. I saw 3 other boats all day. Fishing was slow for everyone. I will be heading back down next weekend. Fishing even if it's slow is better than working!

Sounds like there is just more water than there are fish! It's about what was expected as a result of the prolonged drought and lowest water levels in recent history.
Should get a little better as the weather stabilizes, but I wouldn't look for those strong runs of years past.
I'm just praying right now that we get some good solid rainfall to sustain the water level we have or close to it, or the fishing will not recover.
With no significant flow coming in the whites have no reason to venture upstream!

Put it at 59 at 11 am and trolled up river towards the airport ramp. Caught 8 keepers all female. Was out of the water by 2. River has plenty of water and haven't seen it this high in a few years. About 12 trailers under the bridge. I think most were down river because we only saw 2 other boats.

Yo Anthony,

You probably saw me and my bud fly by you guys head in towards the lake...I was in a bluewave center console, we hit the mouth of the lake from two different points, when we started to mark fish we dropped rattle traps to troll, 5 min later n a 2 lb female nice n fat, thought for sure we found some...we stopped to present live minnows while throwing beetle spins, roadrunners, and 1/8 oz rattles, nothing would take them...trolled back to 59 in a couple more areas and ran into a few folks who claimed onesy twosies but nothing more...I guess you did better than most, any advise on lure of choice to troll? Will be heading back in a few weeks
since I do believe it will heat up with I believe, a few more fat females

Really miss the days when a couple of hours there and you're done!!

Maybe next time you should wear that seductive tank top. The female whites (and some male) are attracted to sexy fisherman.

Hey A_Yanta, How far upriver did you go? What were you trolling with? I was there Friday. I tried trolling up river late in the afternoon. I went about a mile past the oid rusty bridge. No luck. I will be heading down there next Sunday. Thanks!

here are some pics....Lots of water

Lures
We were trolling with jigs....2 on each line set up like a speck rig....White, Green, and pink
2 on the left where a double and felt like we caught a log. We started at the bridge and trolled up for about 2 hr, not sure exactly how far that was. We never made it to the airport ramp but don't think we were too far from it.

All females, The smaller ones were 11" and we probably threw back about 5 smaller ones.
