Ugh, that spells fish kill down there ... lots of dead mangrove snapper, snook, etc

Yep .... Snook already had a ruff time last week over 30 dead in my channel I'm pretty sure the ones not in the ship channel are toast. Very sad the reds will be OK but they will be deep for a while after this one.

OK, we went fishing today on the SPI surf. Got on at Beach access #5 and drove a half mile or so north. The surf was beautiful, very little weed, hardly any current and 1' waves made our time there enjoyable. Final total of Whiting kept was 9 and they were nice size too all caught on fishbites.

Thanks for the info. Now that the weather has warmed up, we will be giving it a try in the morning. The conditions for tomorrow look great and the car is all loaded up.

Well what a nice day on the beach at South Padre Island. It was sunny and warm, the surf was almost flat. There was no current and no weeds and the water clarity was clear.

Went up the beach(north)about 3 1/2 miles from entrance 5 and set up the lines with fish bites and cut mullet. For the next 3 hours, we caught 14 whiting and I was impressed with the large size.

Had a few other hits but nothing big. Overall a nice enjoyable morning.

Yesterday was our first nice day in a long time, I spent most of it, fishing in the Shrimpboat docks...not even a bite!! Tried everything on the menu and NOTHING! At night I first tried a free flowing live shrimp then under a cork and after an hour, my shrimp finally died...without incident!!
Where are all the fish? This weather has me homebound and when I get a nice day to go, no fish. UGH

Water is pretty cold around the channels. Fish should be up on flats in shallow water trying to warm up. We fished Christmas day in about 4 foot of water and had a very good bite. Wish I could have been out yesterday... Weather is very junky right now... leaves me to do work around the house and drive me insane...

Drove to the island, SPI, and hit the Jetty around 8:00. I hate to have to make a report like this, but not even a bite. I saw 3 hardheads caught in the distance from where I was, but not a hit on my line or anyone else's that I could see. Left around 11:00 or so. The weather was nice at 8:00, water in the channel was almost calm with an outgoing tide and maybe wind at 5mph, but as time went on the conditions got worse. The wind started to blow, and the temperature dropped accordingly, with bigger swells in the channel. UGH, I'll be happy when the weather returns to normal and the fish start biting again.

Went to the jetty today and it was slow with lots of hard heads but sheepshead started biting when the sun came out at noon and I limited by 2:30 pm.

For you'all who give fishing reports at the Isla Blanca Park Jetty and the surf of south PI (FishLady, Mana-ep and others), these are greatly appreciated. I am a meteorologist at the National Weather Office in Dodge City, KS and have never fished the Gulf Coast.
I think one reason why I like fishing so much is that fishing patterns are intricately related to the daily and seasonal weather patterns. And I have always liked detective work. I have fished the Carolina coast for many years. But soon, I will be making the 14 hr drive there. It could be this Feb/Mar or perhaps Nov/Dec. I learn a lot from your reports.

The water temperature is running about 3F below normal right now (59F) thanks to all the frontal passages.
Hopefully when the WT gets back up to normal, the fishing will pick up.
