I was wondering if throwing some oatmeal or cornmeal out to attract and congregate the shad. Then use the cast net. Has anyone ever tried this or anything else to attract shad. maybe some range cubes in a feed sack and baiting a whole for shad.

Main diet is plankton, that being said I know a guy that swears you can bait a hole with dog food. Never done it myself, and he is a fisherman so I know he wouldn't lie about it .

Cattle cubes work great! Always chummed with that at the barge for carp and buff, and the shad are right there with them.
