Funny thing is when they open a new store the fishing department is fully stocked. I wonder if its up to each store manager to order whats being carried?

Forkduc - maybe they do this for some new stores but not all of them. Did you see my post concerning a new store?

They have pretty much lost my business. It seems like almost all the fishing gear I liked there they discontinued. Rapala DT cranks, gone. Owner extra wide gap hooks, gone. At least half of their Big Bite selection, gone. I just order online now at tacklewarehouse and others. Their loss!

I live in Lubbock so fishing a not as big up here, but even our small selection at academy has gotten worse. The Gander Mountain here used to have a fishing counter with at least one employee behind it but the tore that out during a remodel.

Went to the Academy in Fort Worth on Cherry Lane in Fort Worth on Friday to redeem my Christmas present. Couldn't get the lures that I wanted as the racks were empty or didn't have the colors I wanted. Tried to buy some line but Berkely BG line size I wanted was sold out. Tried to buy some worms but they don't sell the Grande Bass Megatail worms anymore. Tried to buy H20 Bibs but they were out of my size. I had $100 to spend and left with $100.

I was very thankful to receive an Academy gift card for Christmas; but after going to three different stores, I ended up using my gift card at the Academy Online store. The website has much better selection and you don't have to deal with the seven deep line/one register open thing they have going at the stores.

Academy has become too large and the stocking has been taken over by the bean counters looking for bargains and buying in bulk.
I went to three different stores looking for Super Dupers. The first store was a total waste of time. At least the clerk at the second one took the effort to find what I wanted at another store.
I posted sometime back about being in an Austin Academy and a clerk walking between me and what I was looking at and didn't bother to stop and ask me if I needed help. My post was censored and I was scolded by the mods because it was a negative post about them and Academy is a contributor to this site. Contribution or otherwise, there's no excuse for poor customer service and a poorly stocked any kind of department. An occasional b\negative post about a retailer isn't going to put them out of business, but poor customer service certainly will. If you are in business to sell a product, stock the product and hire people who will sell it or get out of it. That's pretty simple.
It's a bit of a drive to get to Cabelas in Buda and you pay a little more, but I have had very few non-productive trips there. I just wait and go down there with a list. I think some retailers are going to wake up when BPS opens their store in Round Rock

The 2 stores near me have a fair amount. One is a new store, and has a great selection for now. One has cut back a little but still keeps quite a bit.

Not sure it will help but I did go to their website and completed a survey complaining about poor stockage of items in the fishing department.
