Canon City - Royal Gorge tourist stuff, Colo Springs is only 45 mins away, lots of touristy stuff in Salida and Cripple Creek. Not the best for the ladies, but it can be fun.
Gunnison/Crested Butte would be a blast for the ladies - shopping and antique stuff (Taylor River and Gunnison for fishing).

Pagosa Springs has a pretty decent section of water but If youre in that area hit the San Juan in Creede or the Rio outside Southfork. Plenty of browns in that neck of the woods! Last year we hit the Little Red in Heber Springs during spring break. Not crowded. Everyone caught limits, but we weren't using flies either. I'm new to fly fishing but im very interested in progressing. My whole family lives in Arkansas and I have access to great water. Thinking about heading back up to Eureka Springs this SB to snag some smallies in the Kings River or the Buffalo.

Also if you're in northern New Mexico, head to Taos or Red River. Taos has an amazing stretch of the Rio that runs through the canyon there. Call it the "Taos Box." Also the Rio Chama is just north of Taos in a little town called Abiquiu. Smaller stretch of water but equally as beautiful. The Red flows right through Red River which is right up in the mountains and located within Carson National Forest. Just south of Red River is Questa, and they have a large res and also is pretty decent fishing. Fawn Lakes in Carson NF is also a fun spot that is stocked regularly. I did some fish drifting last summer in North NM/Southern CO-Stoked to do it again soon!

#1 on all of the above! The Taylor should be on every fly fisherman's -woman's top ten places in the USA to fish before they take a long dirt nap.

Norfolk river is nice..It's a tributary to the White River. We fished that during spring break about 10 years ago. I assume it's still a good place. It is a tough deal sometimes because you have to catch it when they aren't generating. Also, Missouri has some pretty nice state park where there is a spring and good fly fishing. Hopefully, I'll be slaying some white bass here in Texas!
Give a man a fish, he'll eat for a day. Teach him how to fish, he'll be gone every weekend.

Well, we kinda went off track from the recommendations, but they all sounded pretty good! My mom is like the maestro of finding good vacation rentals, so while looking for rentals on the White river she found a really nice one on the Little Red in Heber Springs. After I did some research on the Little Red it looked almost as good as the White, plus I've got a weakness for big browns, so we went ahead and booked it. I've got 2 full guided days booked with Jamie Rouse fly fishing adventures, and by the looks of it they're top notch, so it should be a good trip!

My daughters boy friend is headed to Little Rock for a 8 month job and I was thinking of hitting the Little Red later on this year so please keep us posted on the trip. Hope you have a BLAST and a safe trip!

I've got 2 full guided days booked with Jamie Rouse fly fishing adventures, and by the looks of it they're top notch, so it should be a good trip! For Mid-March and what you asked about, I'd say you did about as well as you can. AR in March can be chilly (40's) to balmy (70's) and the early hatches (mostly caddis and chironomids) are beginning, especially late morning through the afternoons. It's wet fly fishing - scud/sowbug, caddis (mostly soft hackle emergers and pupa), and midges. But those rivers also have some minnows, so streamers always produce quality fish in lower numbers than the smaller stuff. Jamie is as good as they get on the Little Red. If you ask and pay attention, you'll learn a lot in 2 days. The Little Red, White, Norfork have produced more world record Brown Trout than any other watershed in the world. That doesn't mean all the fish are 10 lbs, but it does mean that there are more world class wild Brown Trout there than anywhere else. I love fishing the Rockies, some of Appalachia is really nice, but the tops in affordable trout fishing quality is in the Ozarks. Folks are nice, food is pretty good, and the price is right. Should be a great trip. Enjoy!

My whole family is from Arkansas (hence my name!). Fished the Little Red last year and had a blast. We always put in at Lobo Landing and go up river to them secret Ozark spots. Looking to go up on the Kings River or Buffalo to snag smallies
