Just curious if you leave the electronics on while crappie fishing underneath boat. I sometimes will turn mine off while bass fishing if I feel there's a chance that the pinging will spook fish. How about crappie? Me and the boy are going today to try and catch them.
Thanks, okie

that is an interesting question , most of the crappie folks leave electronics on because of the specific locations that the crappie locate themselves in . I never thought of the "ping" making a difference but because they are such "homebodies" most of the time it makes it easier to pin point the exact location to drop your presentation . they are not the roam a bit and chase types like a bass . I hope yawl ketch a bunch

Good luck OkiePoke! I leave mine on always. Never thought anything about it making a difference. I don't really think it does looking back at past experiences though. I hope you and the boys have a fantastic day!

Don't turn it off till I'm pulling back into the boat house or loading up. Constantly changing screens tho.

I leave my graph on all the time while fishing. I have started using one last year and still learning how to read it. Getting better at it each time I go out with my buddies.

I used to have a CD player in my Skeeter Starfire. I tested it alot & it never affected the crappie bite, unless I turned it way up so that the bass was thumping!

I will turn off the console unit once I find or get to what I am looking for then the bow unit comes on and stays on. I reverse and repeat when moving locations.

Well, me and the boy went this morning for almost 3 hours. No bites. We'll have to try again soon. He got a new ultra lite, jigs, line and fillet knife but we had nothing to clean. That's fishing! We'll be back at it in no time. Happy Holidays to all!

I don't know if there have been any studies to know if crappie can hear/feel the frequencies the locators use. Obvioulsy, humans can't hear them and most can't even tell when they are on. Being an old sailor, I assure you the frequency used by sonar is very audible to people and fish. But, you get used to it over time and never even notice it and suspect fish are similar since there are so many boats on the lakes now with locators. Just my thoughts on the subject. And good luck in the Cotton Bowl!!!

Okiebob I think you is probably right about it being very audible ... as I remember it did seem to bother them there giant squid quite a bit on "SEA HUNT" made em attack the sub darn near every time
