I've never caught a fish from my couch. Wait on the weather to be perfect and you'll get about three days of fishing a year...

I usually drive around until I spot a pasture where they are laying down and standing up. Then I throw salt over my left shoulder and the right - because I don't know what that does. I also knock on wood; if none is available, a couple raps to the back of my noggin and I'm good to go.

Doug Hannon,..years ago wrote books about fishing around the full moon,..best 3 days before and after.
Keeping Log Books and measurements of every fish I caught on Fayette,..one boring winter day cross logged it
and found every fish I caught in 4 years time over 20 inches were in Dougs time span.
Impressed as I was ,...I still wetted a hook everytime the water was wet.

If the cows are up and spread out feeding it is usually pretty good 70-80% of the time for me. I have one hole I fish regular where I can see a group of cows and I watch them hard and I am telling you when they get out there and feed we are usually catching them pretty good on that spot.

I also have logs going back to 1982 and the East wind has killed us many times. I do not think we ever caught a big fish over 10 lbs on a East wind day. Had many days where we just caught small ones but numbers and size seem to be off on East wind days.

I talk with my fisherman/customers from all over the US and most that fish pretty regular say it is the same where they are from inshore or off shore. Wind blows from the East the fish bite the least !

I know if nature is at work like the cows, deer, squirrels, birds are all moving around then usually the fish bite being part of nature it all goes hand/hand IMO.

Squirrels are all you need to watch.

I always get mad when the cows are eating and I'm not on the water yet! But you have to check and see if they are by the trees, on the ridge, in the creek bed, or on the windy side of the field.....it is a good indicator of where the fish are.

We decided to drink a vodka and cranberry a few times a year in memory of Doug. I'm betting it will improve our fishing.

The solution to any problem - work, love, money, whatever - is to go fishing, and the worse the problem, the longer the trip should be. --John Gierach

I pay attention to the signs but being on the water is what it is all about

True! And all animals are affected by this. It is instinct. They are also affected by the Solunar tables.

Let the wind be your friend! cheers Works for both fishing and golf.

A good rule of angling philosophy is not to interfere with another fisherman's ways of being happy, unless you want to be hated.

I do believe in the spring when the mockingbird are singing at 4pm the fish are spawning.
