Do you tie braid directly to your lures or use a flouro leader?
If you tie braid to your lures, what do you use to cut it with when you change lures?

I use leaders, only time I tie braid direct is to my dropper rigs which are usually mono.
At the bench I use a hot line cutter from Berkeley, I like the little melted nub it leaves behind. When on the pier, I have a pair of scissors or a pair of forceps with cutters. I keep both sharpened with a scissors sharpener.

I typically tie a flouro leader onto my braid by usin a uni knot on both lines. I don't like the knot passing through the tip guide, but I don't know what else to do.

I stop using leaders when I'm using braid unless I'm near a pier. Open bays there is no need. I feel it actually cuts short my casting distance. Not to hi-jack but Pferox you see Bullbuster will be releasing a braided line? as soon as they get 10,00 facebook likes.

Yea I saw that, I liked it a few times already, hope those counted. I would be happy with it if it was a few steps up above the Chinese stuff at affordable price. I'm about ready to get some more braid for my reels. I saw a blip somewhere that they have another line of mono, but can't find it anywhere, think they need to update their website.
When I throw soft baits and jigs in open water I will go to strait braid, but have too many problems with tangling on spinner baits and treble hooks, its just more the way I cast over anything else.

Have always tied strait to the lures, never had any problems. Just need a sharp knife to cut to change lures.

I keep a pair of stainless hemostats with the cutters, line cutter and hook remover.
I've had plenty of people with me who believed they needed to fuss with a leader, knot this tie that, blah blah blah, and yet to ever see it make a difference on a jig head and plastic.

I tie straight to braid as well.

For the guys using leaders, do you use them to avoid having to tie and trim braid every time you change lures, or is there another reason?

If I am surf fishing with cut/live bait and don't want to mess with the sharks, I will use a leader so they can cut themselves off. If not, the main purpose of a leader is to make the line invisible to the fish. I don't normally get the chance to fish in that clear of water so green or brown super 8 works just fine for me straight to the lure.

Back when I was bass fishing, I tied leaders on so I could cut and tie lures, helping the braid last longer (yea, I'm cheap).
Now, on spinning gear I use the leaders as abrasion resistance when fishing piers and other sharp structure, you would be amazed how much of a difference 8 or 10 feet of heavier mono or floro on the end makes. I had a hard time in Fl using braids in the beginning when fishing Snook, used to have the gill plates cut me off a lot. Although I don't target shark any more, the same thing happens with their skin, it will work like sand paper fraying braid pretty quickly.
In open water, I try to keep it simple, and just go directly to my lure or rig, less knots that way.

I have tied direct to braid but prefer using a mono or fluro leaded as it is much easier to tie knots in the wind. I don't use the heavier braids, usually 20 lb or less. Trying to tie 10 lb braid in the wind is tough. I use a cigarette to cut it.
