I'll take a wind coming from anywhere between the southwest to northwest all day long. Wished they lasted longer.

To me its easier to figure out wind direction than barometric pressure.

I rarely consult tired cows prior to going fishing, and as long as the wind stays below 25-30 I can generally find a place to fish if I want to go bad enough regardless of direction. Its the rising barometric that I keep an eye on, it probably has the most effect on fish that I know of and in most cases if high enough can flat shut the bite down.

I just go fishing when I can go. I try not get too caught up in what I can't control. I hate leaving the house thinking its gonna be a tough day. It just sets you up to have a bad trip.

My Granddaddy was a big believer in the cow theory. He was one heck of a fisherman too.

Here is the saying I believe is true.

No doubt. Been a crazy winter so far. Seems I have hardly fished due to other commitments but it will be back to normal starting the New Year out.

I wouldnt really rely on the cows, they can be influenced by feeding times, there is another animal that can be consistanly linked to catching fish when it is active. Just watch the trees.

There was an article in Bassmasters magazine several years ago about the effects of barometric pressure on bass and fish in general. The article was based on a college study if I remember right. In the article they gist of it was that with extreme barometric pressure change fish can be effected to the point of being disoriented and having to pull up to cover to keep themselves floating correctly. In the study they had witnessed fish being so disoriented that they were literally upside down. I suspected that their swim bladders can't adjust to a large change either quick enough or at all..........

Cows laying down and such is a indicator of general wildlife activity. You can typically know when the bite is going to be better by watching the wildlife activity. When it's a deadzone more often than not the fishing is tough. Fish do not talk to or see the cows.

I think it means that you cant catch fish in the area the cows are lying down.

I worked on ranch and those laying down cows sure gotta going when i honked the horn come feeding time...even on the nastiest days. Maybe try the horn on the lake. One thing, my father-n-law used to say that everytime we went fishing. I told him, maybe so but they eat every day too.

I don't believe the cow thing either, but before I leave my place I make sure they are all standing........just in case
