It depends. Sometimes I fish a 1/2 ounce jig on a medium heavy casting rod with 30 pound braid and a 12-15 pound flouro leader, sometimes I fish a 1/16oz tube jig with a thin wire hook on a 6 foot 8 spinning rod with 8 pound flouro. I don't own a heavy action rod but if I jig fished insanely dense cover with heavy jigs I probably would get one.

Depends on what kinda jig and where your throwing it. Could be anything from 12lb flouro to 60lb braid.

as for brands i mostly use powerpro braid and seaguear flouro or something like that, just because they are easily available. I have had decent results with them.

Truthfully, braid is the best for hookups because it has less stretch. But you will also get fewer bites. InvizX fluoro is what I use 99% of the time. 15-20 lb test.

I broke off 3 good fish on hook sets this year when we needed them for the win. I am going to change back to a copolymer from invisX (20#). Izorline XXX is where I'm heading. 20-25 pound test.

I really like Seaguar Invizx fluorocarbon. 20lb test for all jig applications, then 15lb for swim jigs. Super strong and low memory in cold weather.

Your line choice should take into account the water clarity.
