Hi James. There were no brown trout stocked when the Vibert boxes were planted. Roger
Jeff, I just wanted to make absolutely sure, so I emailed the guy that heads up this project. I can PM his contact info to you if you like. Those big browns hang out in the '40 foot hole' and in the river bend area until they get the spawning urge. The riffles under the bridge are a cakewalk for these fish when they want to go upstream. Few people fish in the river bend area for them. Get a kayak or some other type of flotation, and you, too, can find them. They are there year round! I promise!

Hmmmm.... OK then. I just got some bad intel. They sure were pretty sitting at the lost creek confluence and upper EH. I wish I could get a kayak or float tube up there. My sports sedan doesn't have room. I know some guys that have them on the South PLatte resovoirs and they love 'em. Carey - the new signs are nice, even if in the wrong place. One of them saved my [censored] when I got caught in a downpour. Nice little roof on them

Lower Mountain Fork: November 22. Stocked 2,295 lbs., approximately 4,150 rainbow trout, on November 21. Report submitted by April Drake, secretary at the southeast regional office.
Average fish was only about 9oz or 11" this time. lots of 'em in spillway and Lost Creek. Seemed like they were all either rising or eating eggs.

My family and I rented a cabin over the thanksgiving weekend just outside of beavers bend so i got some time to give my trout addiction a fixing. The "hillbilly heaven" cabin just off of 259 wasn't the best, but was nice and homey inside. The sound of Semi Trucks going 60 down the highway isn't the most peaceful sound to fall asleep to. I arrived at the EH parking lot on saturday morning and worked my way up to Lost Creek with multiple flies. At one of the first pools in Lost Creek, I saw about 5 fish feeding a few feet under the surface. After a few casts with a size 24 fly, and I was fighting a rainbow over 18 inches. He swam underneath a log, but with 7X tippet, there was no way I could pull her out. She swam back out from the log, shook her head, and the fly popped right out. I continued working my way up the creek and landed two wild ones, then lost a little brown. Almost to the bait chucker area, I fought another fish over 18 inches, and like the last one, came unhooked after the head shake. Not any big fish Saturday, but beauties. Sunday was very unsuccessful with only one 12 inch rainbow on a hares ear. At that point I had tried everything in the fly box within reason. Monday morning was very foggy and was time to pack up and head home. I was able to sneak down to the upper section of Spillway Creek. Eggs and Worms werent working well at all. I saw a fish rise downstream so i switched to a tiny caddis. After a few drifts, he came to the surface, inspected the fly for a couple seconds and slurped it under. He put up a good fight for the size, and was my very first brown trout. Beautiful fish.

Update on fly orders: they will be 2-3 days late due to the icing conditions in Dallas. I actually tried to mail some today but the post office is closed. Sorry for the delay. Nature called. So if you were expecting them soon, add another 2-3 days on order.

Carey do you tie any flies for ice fishing? Or do you use the Near Deer for that also? :-)
