Dobyns Champion Extreme. Get at least a 5 power ( it's the last # in the model Name that determines the power ) example 705 is a 7' with 5 power/heavy ) but your boys may want something like the 805/806 ( which is 8 ft ). If they aren't used to a longer rod you may want to take that into consideration.

Personally, the 784 is my favorite of the dobyns line up because it's so versatile, but you said flipping heavy matted grass, so I would suggest higher power.

I use a Loomis 904 IMX. If you are punching thick grass some of the rods listed above are a little on the light action side for that. If you are pitching to edges and holes in grass then the lighter action rods recommended above are fine.

This. Can't beat 'em.

A Dobyns DX 765FLIP would be your best bet for the money. Perfect length and power for flipping IMO. Dobyns has always been my favorite rod for the durability and sensitivity they offer in their rods from the Savvy series to the Champion Extreme.
