I would go with a 5 or 6 power in the Dobyns rod. I would go with the longest rod they are comfortable with. You are fishing for big fish in heavy grass. I would go with the 765 or 805

This One rod that will do it all is a Loomis 784 Heavy action IMX 7'
Middle of the road price point and indestructible.
You can buy an 8' broomstick but you are so limited to what you can use it for.

I would probably go with the Dobyns Savvy 766 rod. EXCELLENT rod for the price and it will do the job. There are a few better Dobyns rods you can buy, but they are more expensive. This one will get the job done and be a longer lasting rod than most. About the only difference that I can tell from the Champion series is the Savvy is just a tad bit heavier than the Champion series. All, GREAT rods, however.
Dobyns Savvy Cast Rod 7'6" Heavy Flip 766
Hope this helps.
Tight lines, keep safe and good luck.

Loomis 844 in either IMX or GL3
The IMX rod is great for Carolina Rigging or Flipping, and okay for big spinnerbaits, deep cranks, 3/4 oz traps and swimbaits. It has a strong back bone and a fast tip.
The GL3 is good for all of the above, solid back bone and a little softer tip.
They are 7 footers so they are easily handled.

St Croix Legend Tournament TBC76MHMF. The medium heavy has plenty of backbone, lightweight, and great warranty. Not too stiff like the Heavy actions rods. Ive tried all the high end rods and this is the best IMO. This. Can't beat 'em.

Dobyns Savvy 766FLIP... almost indestructible, and underpriced for it's quality! I have 2 of them, and I have put them through the ringer with no problems! throwing them from boat to boat, they ride in back of truck, bouncing around in my aluminum boat... my clumsy feet stepping on them. I can't say enough about how nice the Savvy Series really is! I really like this quality vs price point! (just don't go telling Dobyns they underpriced them!)
