I need some advice guys. I've picked up several local sponsors for the upcoming season and we will be wrapping our boat. There will be a lot more money flying around so I want to make sure and do this the right way. I plan on writing up some advertising options and what not but my main concern is on the contracts. If anyone could help me out or shoot me some does and don'ts, they would be greatly appreciated! PM me if you would like... Thanks

My advice is this -- if there is really alot of money flyin around, then get a lawyer to do this for you... one that is familiar with advertising contracts...
Or there are alot of great resources online -- you can find other similar contracts by doing a google search using terms like "advertising contract example" or "advertising contract template."
Find one of those that fits your needs, or take the parts you like from several of them to form your own contract, but then still I recommend getting it checked by a Lawyer. You not being familiar with any and every minute legal detail about that stuff, could easily screw yourself over some how just based on the language you use in your document...Better safe than sorry!!

Thank you. I figured I could do most of it online but the lawyer part is Definatly a concern. I spoke to mine today and of course he wants to "help me" but I really don't think it will be necessary...

No discounts, just cash. The reason I'm concerned about contracts is that we plan on displaying the wrap for a year or two if not longer and I'm worried of the possibility of them backing out or something and us advertising their logo for free... And has anyone dealt with bsg wraps? Someone recommended them.

Contracts are your friend. Signed and notarized if you can do it.

Better to get the lawyer involved on the front end. It costs a lot more to clean up after messing up the situation. Also, not all lawyers are created equal. If you are doing a contract, get a contracts lawyer.

A lawyer knows the wording to use in order to make the contract binding and protective. They're also a sort of insurance policy in a way.
If you want a contract for protection, the only way is through a lawyer. If it's not written correctly, it won't hold up in court.
Any reputable company will have a lawyer working on the contract on their side, so it is highly suggested that you have one on your side.

Maybe your Lawyer would be a sponsor in return for his work.
I don`t care for the law profession, however they are worth their weight in gold, "WHEN" you need them. Mine his saved me many times. Work through everything you possible can before you start his meter running.

You do NOT need a lawyer to handle a simple sponsorship agreement. There's plenty of templates out there to use for your contract that are binding and effective. Google em.
The easiest way to handle it is to get your funds in January or whenever your agreement begins and then you don't have to worry. A wrap isn't going to last two years anyway so if they bail then re-wrap.
And here's the reality, if you're worried about non payment in the early stages then chances are you may not be dealing with the right partner.

My thought is a contract for a small operation like you are explaining, is not justifyable. If wrap contract is broken you will spend more on a lawyer than the cost of a wrap. Beware of contracts with company`s that their headquarters are out of the US. Was burned good by a foreign owned company with what I thought was a good contract. Most contracts are not worth the paper they are written on.

But no, I'm not worried about anyone backing out, just playing out all the possible scenarios...
