Hi,

I just started to tie my own jigs two weeks ago and this is what I made so far. Do you think they will work?

Look pretty good. A couple things I have learned and I think Skip straightned me out on. Its best if you dont trim the marabou. The way Skip showed me was pull the feather off the stem then trim on base end. Other thind i like is put an extra wrap behind the head, so it looks a little fuller after the thread pushes it down. I love the colors. Where are you located? If near dfw, I have soome powder paint I'll sell cheap, if you want to start painting. I bought about 25-30 lbs when Roseys had their sale.

Winner, Winner, Crappie Diner! You have some fish catcher's there. Happy's (Skip's) advice is good. You might want to try some hackle tip's & "V's" too. It's ALL good though!

Those are much better than the 1st jigs I tied. Keep going and before you know it you will be a seasoned pro. Nothing like catching fish on your own creations.

SlabHappy is right on with the marabou! Colors look good and they will get better with practice. Looks like they will catch fish. Also if you do like he said and pull the barbules off the stem and stack them until you have enough to tie in, pinch it about where the length will be right after you cut the end you pulled off so the tips all stay natural they will look better and the action will be better too!

Good job though for your first! Keep it up and try to learn something new anytime you can.

I'm new too,(a month or so) you'll look and learn without trying to. Each week that passes,my kids tie twice as good as the week before.
As to your question: On left, second down,I would think is your best tie.(open to comments) I like the shape, and the fullness of the wrap at the head. It is close to being back past the hook tip but it is a smaller hook,so else can you do. I'm an Orange fan so your first and third down on right, catches my eyes too. My opinion is they need one extra wrap at the head side to make fuller looking head transition and possibly thicker chinille or just use more of it per jig. Not downing them, they are great work. And your learning as you go. Just giving my comment.

Side note: do you enjoy it more than you thought? Are you spending more money than you thought you would?
We do, and so far I have $250 in it. That started off with a $25 vise set! LOL
Thank God my wife don't know!

Thank your for all your comments and I am really appreciate your help. I do seem to buying more and more chenille, hackle, hook and etc. I have yet find out which one is the most effective combo so at this point I just trying to do more color combination to find a crappie killer. Someone also suggest that I should do some powder paint on the head, I think I will hold up on that due to the fact that I already spent so much money on new gears and slip fees. I will definitely take some time to digest all the valuable comments given by everyone of you and I will update you once I get better at it.

Hahaha, hope you didn't take me wrong. I'm nearing the end of my shift and so short handed that there's no one to talk to. Pepop, helped us on the powder paint. It's stupid easy and cheap. A little jar $3? from crazy angler and alcohol lamp are cheap. Don't tell Pepop but the kids have been using a candle to heat the jig heads. A no no. Paint last a long time unless you spill it.

I know Im arm chairing here. This weekend I'll take pictures of our weekly progress and story. I'll put up or shut up.

They look good, and will get bit. Like someone mentioned youe ties will get better with time. keep some of these and put them away out of sight for a few months then go back and look at them you will notice the difference. they are all good combos.

No joke! I bet with materials, pouring equipment, 5 molds, 30 lbs of powder paint, eyes and a Peak vise, I bet I'm up around, probably over $1000. Thank God the wife doesn't know!
