ER74. You are going to have to give me tips and pointers. I am not 100% sure what to take for lures/bait.

Salmon eggs and whole kernel corn work for the stockers.

For medium and smaller rainbows power bait (marshmallows) work the best with a small treble hook (PB needs to cover the hook completely. For the larger rainbows and browns inline spinners and count down Rapala's

We usually get five good ones then switch to the lures for the larger fish. Make sure the section of river is not a catch and release or barbless area.

I've been there a bunch, I usually stay at Fulton's Lodge just below White Hole. The water is crystal clear and trout have good vision. I use 4 lb or 6 lb mono, Stren Lo-Vis Green. Stock up on 1/8 oz and 1/6 oz spinners like Rooster Tails. Fish them slow. Rapalas for larger fish and browns. Always call the dam before wading or heading out to see how many generators are running. Fast-rising water can be dangerous or leave you stranded. Get to Rim Shoals if you can, its a catch-and-release area that is really neat. You can walk downriver along the train track and cut down to the river. We also like Three Chutes just above White Hole and Roundhouse Shoal just below Cotter. You'll have fun.

My go-to spinners:

Corn, Powerbait, Cheese, Salmon Eggs, & Night Crawlers if you don't want to go the artificial way.

Spinners above will work.

Fly-Fishing try Wooly Buggers. 1/100 oz. marabou jigs on a small strike indicator. Lots of Freshwater Shrimp in the river.

I never been, so for those of you that have, do I need to hire a guide? I go to Beavers Bend all the time, and I'm confident that all the mention baits, but I got a clue where to go...My research online has me all over the place, norfork, bull shoals, little red? IDK, also do I need a boat?

You dont need a boat or a guide. There are a ton of places you can fish from the bank or wade. A guide would be good in fast, high water, you really need a boat for that, and someone to work the motor while you fish. A guide is also good for learning the various shoals and how to run through them at low water. I've rented boats from Fulton's Lodge, Rim Shoals Resort (www.rimshoals.com), and Cotter Trout Dock (www.cottertroutdock.com).

But you can have a blast without a boat. You should always call the dam to see what time they turned the generators on or off, and how many are running. Water levels can rise quickly, even 15-25 miles downstream and hours after the generators were turned on.

The Norfolk River is close by. It's often very crowded. I tend to go to the White River from December-March, after that it gets too busy and crowded for me. Be sure to check out the trout hatchery at the Norfolk.

I can shoot you a map of the river with shoals on it, and some notes, if you PM your e-mail address.

The hatchery is pretty neat especially the creek behind it. I iwll be there next week. Love it this time of year. Very few people on the river.

Ditto. Most of my trips to the White are December-March. It gets pretty busy after that. If I see someone 100 yards away, I feel crowded.
