Is this a bad habit or am i just doing what feels natural? When I cast, I cast with my right hand/arm. Then without even thinking, as the lure lands, I switch to holding the rod with my left, and cranking with my right hand. I never miss a beat, but wonder, should I try to re-train myself? Thanks.

I am a lefty, but I fish right handed baitcasters (mostly because they are easier to find)

so I do a similar hand transition, and I don't think there is any reason to change what you are doin

I'm a lefty and I fish with righty reels. I throw with my left and reel with my right. Seems perfectly natural. I was brought-up with spinning gear so I never changed when I switched over to bait casters. In fact, it doesn't make any sense what most righties do with right handed reels. An old timer explained that it comes from back in the day when reels didn't have all the brakes and controls that reels have today.

Makes perfect sense to me, but I cast with my right arm with a baitcasting reel. Maybe I should get a reel with the handle on the left side.

I'm an odd character... I write left handed, throw right handed (football and baseball) so while fishing it feels natural to throw with my right and reel with my left. I love it.

I think that's what 95% of us do. In the last few years I forced myself to learn to cast really well left handed though, so when I get tired I switch for a little bit. But still prefer to cast and crank right handed.

Flipping is a different story. I bought a left handed Quantum Energy burner just for flipping so I don't have to change hands.

Cast with my right and reel with my right hand. Been doing it for 40 plus years, tried to change but failed!

Same thing I do. It is what has always felt natural.

I feel right handed with bait casters but reel left handed on my spinning reels. I don't know why but it works for me.

Current Cylinder Index is 42.

That's a Great question. We are such funny creatures. I cast with my right hand then switch the rod to my left hand to reel, unless i'm using my spinning reel. Seems natural. The other day I noticed I could switch out the reel handle on my spinning reel to the other side. So I tried that. Cast with my right hand then switch over to my left hand and reel in with my right. Ha Ha seemed really strange to do that. So I switched the handle back. Maybe I'm just to old to change !
