What lake in your opinion is the best Sand Bass lake in Texas? I used think it was ray Roberts, as I caught a lot of limits there this year. However, I think it's Possum Kingdom now. The TPWD stopped stocking stripers there for several years and the striper numbers are down from the past. I caght a few stripers this year but Sand Bass fishing there has been excellent all year. I have caught limits all year at PK and caught an ice chest full Monday.
I don't think the extreme sand bass numbers at PK will last though. TPWD stocked a bunch of striper fry this year and I'm catching lots of 8 inch stripers. In two years, those 8 inch fish will be 30" and eat everything in sight.
John 21:3 Simon Peter saith unto them, I go a fishing. They say unto him, We also go with thee.

Good question and I have no idea what the answer is.
I do enjoy a good Squirt now and then.

I dont think they will be 30 inches in 2 years. you got a couple more years before everything is eaten up.

I wish we had some better white bass/crappie lakes in the South of the state.

I must be fishing the wrong areas, having trouble locating the sandbass on PK.

Cedar Creek. I've caught some huge sandies all day. Never try PK perhaps one day I will. After guiding on Cedar Creek for years, it was easy to conclude that Tawakoni averages 2" bigger on sandbass. And, both lakes produce quality fish but CC doesn't compare to Tawakoni's big boys. As a white bass afecionado...and in pursuit of the states largest white bass I have broke it down into 2 locations. In Feb / March you will find the states largest whites in Sabine River above Toledo Bend. River Ridge is the mecca for that run. http://riverridgetx.com/For resorvoir / lake fishing, I haven't found any bigger than ole' Tawakoni. LOL...sounds like i'm puttin' in a plug for my own lake...but I felt this way when I use to guide on Cedar Creek.

In march you can catch 17"+ sandbass out of texoma by the mouth of the river. These sandbass are so huge that my biddies swear they have to be hybrids. But I dont pay attention to what records are but my guess is these fish are around 3# and I have never caught any sandbass that big in any other body of water. anyone want to back me up? Surely im not the only one who catches huge sand bass out of big T?????

I would also put in a vote for Tawakoni. Some of those sand bass look like footballs.

I have to agree with others, Tawakoni for sure. Now having said that ive never caught monster sandies with 4"-6" gizzards in February until I had a trip with JD Lyle and couldnt believe how big those sandies were.Thats for lakes around metroplex. Not sure of other Texas lakes. Below is a pic of fish caught at Tawakoni last February. Sandies are on the left, hybrids are on the right with sandies mixed in.

Sorry cant leave out Cedar Creek. That lake in my opinion is the most consitent lake for me on catching sandies. Lots of fish and alot of great places to catch em. As you can tell i like em all, cant really choose one.
