Ins job! Bilge just happened to come on and kaboom? Lots of holes in this story! First its a newer boat and he never noticed the fuel smell coming from his boat? Further more the bildge pump that came on just happened to come on because of? Must have been a piece of rebar that punctured the hull and the gas tank at the same time, causing the defective bildge pump to ignite it lmao.. Not nice to speculate about something you have no first hand knowledge of........just sayin.......

If it was an insurance job (not in any way saying it was) then I personally would have chosen a warmer time of year to do it. Jumping in cold water is no bueno. Do it in the Summer so you can relax in the water with a cold beer while you watch it go up in flames!

Some of you people that hide behind your online alias' and accuse a man you've probably never met of fraud are just plain stupid.
I've been a firefighter in a large department for many years and I have seen many, many accidental fires that started in the most unbelievable ways.
It's unbelievable some of y'all see a couple of pics, have very little info or facts and accuse a man of burning his own boat. Shame on each one of you!!!
To the owner, man I am sorry for your loss, I'd be sick to watch my boat burn!!!

This is why I think it's a joke to carry a fire extinguisher on board I used my fire extinguisher one time, but it was on land...at a gas pump. About 20 years ago in my old boat I stowed my net, with its metal handle, in the back compartment. When I pulled to the pump to refill after fishing I saw smoke coming out of the back vent. I opened the back to see a small flame and a LOT of smoke. I hit it with my extinguisher. After taking a look, I saw that my net handle had bounced around and come to rest perfectly on both the positive and negative posts of my battery. The other end was on the wire coming from my gas tank to my fuel gauge. The metal net had gotten so hot that it burned the insulation off the wire. What were the odds of things shifting around and perfectly lining up that way? Apparently that day they were pretty good. Stuff happens.

Some clueless people on here. Fire does CRAZY ****. The apartment building next to mine burned back in September. The nearest 1st floor apartment was a total loss. I looked in the living room and could see a recliner that was unburned (is that a word?), totally fine looking, sitting in a charred hulk of a building that was so burned they had to demolish it. Everything around it was black as night. Was that some kind of insurance job or conspiracy? No. Fire does crazy stuff.

One of the idiots making "fraud" accusations on this forum would be better off if he kept his accusations towards an honest man that he obviously does not know to himself before someone on here explains what kind of person he is by pointing out some of his past actions.

Back in about 1995 I was in a friends Skeeter way back up in Garret (SP?) on Lake Fork. We were fishing and all of a sudden smoke and then fire came from under his dash. Got out the fire extinguisher and put out the fire. Turns out his ignition wires had shorted out. It was a long troll out to the main lake where we found someone to tow us into Rainswood.
The boat was only maybe four years old. Proves stuff happens!

Im no expert but I have experienced a bilge fire. In rough water my 110 lead for my battery charger bounced its way to the positive post on one of my batteries and landed one of the spades on the plug directly on the lead post. It stuck there somehow and go so hot it caught the black rubber insulation on the cord on fire. I smelled it when I set down and quickly knocked it off and threw wet towells on it to put it out.
This is a possibility along with a small fuel leak kaboom!

I read the accusations of insurance fraud and was appalled at what I read. First off the fire didn't necessarily have to start @ the bilge pump, it could have started anywhere there was the correct fuel to air ratio and electricity present in the internals of the hull due to some fuel leakage and a loose /poor connection probably in the bilge pump circuit anywhere between the fuse panel all the way back to the pump itself .....I agree with another person on this board that there is no way a man would try to burn his boat with the recent weather conditions we have had the past few days.....and just to jump to that conclusion with no facts to back it up is just totally asinine....... I was coming home from Louisiana beck in September and was driving around the Loop in Marshall and as I approached the intersection of the loop and 59 I noticed a nice newer 1 ton 4 door diesel pickup sitting on the side of the road that was towing a really nice 30 foot or so gooseneck race car trailer. Something just didn't look right with the whole situation and as I began to slow down to turn I realized a good part of the roof of the trailer was split down the middle and blown straight up. Another fuel leak and a spark at the right time took its toll. Would you accuse these people of arson too????
