It's been dink fest for the most part. Every once in while we will limit. But some days it's 1-5 keepers, some days but not often, we catch over 15 - 30 keepers. Not worth my time at WRC. Drought is killing me. Might be guiding blue cats next winter if this keeps up.

On a great note. Game Warden Martin handed out an unbelievable amount of tickets at White Rock Creek two nights ago.

165 citations

146 crappie that were under sized with 3 being legal out of all the people cited.

One guy had "50" crappie and he was the only one with three legal crappie. The rest were an average of 5-8 inches. Martin gave this gentleman, 50 tickets. rolfmao

Helps when he lives right around be corner from the creek.

WRC has not been producing for me this. It's either throwbacks or get skunked. Hopefully the white bass run will make up for it.

Bad year this year. Small pockets of them here and there. I have not even taken a guided bank trip out this year. Even my private access creek is not doing well. Some days I will hit a good 10 in one spot and then nothing. I have caught 2 keepers in my cast net at WRC this year, throwing for shad. They either got fished out or for some reason didn't push up the creek. One thing I have noticed is not one Threadfin shad in the cast nets this year. It seems the gizzard shad have taken over. No threadfin is a possibility of why the sandbass population has dwindled to a small population. They used to boil everyday a few years back. Now, you never see them boil main lake. Not that many left in there. For two years a group of dude's, I'll call them, have alluded Martin every-time some how. These dudes keep every sandbass 2 inches to whatever. Last year they left with bucket fulls of unders of every species. This year, is the last year for them. I'm sure they have not helped the population. But it does seem every 4 years it slows down a bit on numbers, but not this year. This is bad bad. Other lakes just don't have the water for them to invade the creeks and rivers. Just to low. We really need some rain soon.

At wrc I think it's the lack of thread fins. The gizzards get to big to consume so nothing for the smaller gamefish to eat.

Makes sense.. I was out at WRC at the big bend and we were catching nothing but Sandy sized Gizzard... I guess I will just wait for the White bass spawn.... Was really hoping to get some crappie in the creek this month and last but oh well... Once again Great Videos! Hope things turn around soon for the creeks and your trips! Any reports from Oklahoma?

Tarpon,
If creek is bad this year, why not main lake like lavon? They have one ramp open.

I just try to understand why no boating guide in winter.

Couldn't find any at my Crappie spot on Sat. either...My son was able to get a small sandie but I felt bad for the 2 dozen minnows that didn't make it. I never put more than 5 minnows on our hooks, fish just weren't there.

Guiding main lake in winter for crappie requires spider rigging. Two peeps at front of boat. Not fun to me. It's basically trolling. I don't troll for fish. To boring.

I think there is a lack of thread fin shad. I have not seen one this whole year. Come to think of it I haven't seen one in two years. Without the small baitfish there's nothing for the smaller Crappie to eat. Only gizzards this year. Sandies have dropped in population as well.

I saw a few dying upstream of the bend a couple weeks ago that were pretty small and worked that area but came up with nothing. Mainly all ive seen this year as well has been the gizzard shad but dont think enough of the threadfin came in to bring the crappie in with them, and the ones that did was caught before the cold front before thanksgiving. Then most of what was left were smaller ones just my opinion thou

I hold out hope for the white run, because two years ago, even though there was enough water at the creek I was fishing, the whites came up in such numbers, and the urge was so great, that we watched literally hundreds of them lay on their sides in maybe two inches of water, and furiously work one pectoral fin and the tail to push themselves into a hole maybe 7-8 ft deep, crystal clear water and do their mate/spawn thing right before our eyes! Enough of them were hungry enough that the three of us fishing that hole were able to limit out quickly! We were standing in thigh deep water, and as they navigated the extremely shallow riffles, they would shoot right between our legs in waves! It was awesome!

So all may not be lost, depending on the creek and the feeder lake population!

It was NOT WRC, Rowlett, or Creek X, btw.

Rudy

Its about that time to start scouting. One of the creeks in DFW I hit last week, already had a few in the holes. I have been full time Striper Guiding at Texoma, but I will break off 1-2 days a week to guide the crappie run. If you want on the Bank Fishing Guided Trips list, text me you want on the list if you are not already and Ill ring you when I start to limit on them. I also have 7 creeks on Texoma I will be guiding winter crappie.

I will do another Free Seminar at Bass Pro Garland on the Winter Crappie Run if yall would like one. So whowould like a free seminar besides the resident Lurkers?

November sometime........
