We were in Matagorda over the weekend and we saw a strange creature in the bay. I was not able to get a picture but it looked exactly like a lobster tail, no pinchers, lots of legs. Any ideas on what this was?

It was about 8" long...not sure on the laws or if you can eat them. I tried to catch it with a net but it flipped on its back and kinda went crazy until it jumped out of the net. Weird little thing....

Those things can hurt you especially if you handle them in the wrong way. They are eaten in some Asian countries.

They are common all along the Gulf Coast. Read up about them, they are pretty interesting little devils just don't handle them unless you know how.

We netted one up the other day at POC and put him on a hook. He caught a dang Gafftop. You don't see them all the time but they're out there.
Dave
Forget the net! Get the gaff!

I caught my best black drum ever using one for bait on a party boat. They're aka sea lice.

When you used him for bait...did you cut him up or just cut head off and hook?
