Had state farm for 16 years. Three claims in that time. Two of those though in last 15 months. They dropped me. Seems to not matter that they have my car insurance (no claims in last 10 years) and home insurance (no claim in last 12 years). They also have two of my life insurance policies. It seems to me that all premiums paid far out weigh what has been paid out. It seems though it does not work that way. I have always felt insurance is a racket. You are in trouble if you have it and use it and in trouble if you do not have it.

We have our home owners and vehicles with Germania and will most likely change my boat insurance to them when it comes due. No more Boat US.

Been with State Farm for close to forty years, received a letter today stating they're cancelling my boat policy. Thanks State Farm.

To some of you who say you've had "company x" insurance for 10+ years or whatever length of time, I've got a news flash for you: If you're not shopping around on an annual basis, you're losing money. There's no way you've got the cheapest coverage sticking with one company unless you have an agent that's a close friend or family member and they're giving you a special rate or something.

State Farm cancelled my boat insurance after 2 claims almost 30 years ago. One of the claims was storm damage and definitely no fault of mine. This was the best thing that happened to me. I found an agent that represents American National and switched boat to her. After I moved to Rockwall State Farm tried to bump my homeowners by 30% 2 years in a row. I promply switch all my business to American National and my homeowners was free when compared to State Farm.

Had State Farm for over 20yrs. Three claims, one years back for trailer damage after semi threw a 2x4 up on the road on a previous boat. Two claims for lower units on present boat, one in 2010 and one in 2012. Got a letter from them 4 weeks back that they were "non-renewing" my policy because of the last two claims. Funny they wait two years to drop me and after being a customer for over 20 years. State Farm is [censored] in my book now. Several agents I have shopped with recently claim State Farm is slowly leaving the boat buisness and they won't even write a policy in Florida now. BEWARE of State Farm !!!

Local agent doesn't make much decisions...it's the insurance adjuster who makes the final decision. It's not like it used to be. My agent even told me that.....
I agree...you would think 3 claims in 16 years would be okay. How can the adjuster make the decision? 90% of the time the adjuster is a contract adjuster and is not even a State Farm employee. Next time you have a adjuster out ask him or her if they work directly for the company. reason I know this because my son has been in the auto body repair for over 10 years and he says he never see a adjuster that actually works for the insurance company.

A non-renewal or cancelation is an underwriting decision.....has nothing to do with the adjuster

i used to do insurance adjusting... they usually hire an outside firm that has specialized trained folks in repair. I did mine for automotive claims. State Farm has it's reasons, and underwriting IS the place where the decision is made to drop people. I am waiting on my letter (just a guess). Just claimed a lower unit and hull on my old skeeter my dad gave me. they paid quickly and without any hassle.

I was with them for 5 years on boat and auto and the wifey hit a deer one year and 2 years later barely bumped a suburban in a parking lot and they canceled all of our policies. If they keep up they will cancel themselves out of business, then they have the audacity to contact me to be an agent, just told them pffffftt !

I had home owners with state farm for years. Then one day a giant dust devil (or a mini tornado) came out of the sky landed on my home, tore up the roof, destroyed an aluminum carport, picked up my Grill threw it into my home. it lifted back up and didn't harm anyone else's property. The State Farm agent was very rude and didn't believe what I reported, the quoted a price that would not cover any of the damage. Then over one week of calls without sending anyone to asses the damage the adjuster told me they were going on vacation and that if I didn't take her amount my claim would be placed on hold until she returned from her vacation. I was telling people at work about the whole mess, when one of them states he had the whole thing on video. He lived several blocks from my home, he was videoing his grand daughter in the yard when it happened. I called back and stated that a friend had it all on video. A check for the full assessment was sent overnight. It shouldn't be that hard! This was in Arizona, around 10 years ago. I still have the video. (on a VCR Tape) I am with USAA for my home and cars, Progressive for the boat from now on, they cost more but are very professional.
