I personally am going to put one on my starboard side. I am choosing this because it is the same side as my anchor light and therefore the back seat angler will only have to deal with obstacles on one side of the boat. It is really your preference tho.

When you don't have any, you won't find many uses for one. When you get one, you find a lot more uses for it than you previously thought, and it changes how you fish. You cannot imagine how you'd ever use another. Then you fish with someone who has two, and you realize the precision and stability of having a solid platform that stays where you put it. You'd probably spend way too much time in shallow water though, and that's not where the bass are.
