JR, you are correct I did misinform some of you guys on fishing with power bait in the red zones which you're not allowed to do. My bad. You have no idea of how many people you mis-guided with that post. I recently came up on a happy family from the D/FW area fishing in the Bluff Hole (Red Zone) with what else but PINK POWERBAIT WORMS! If I'm lying, may I die right now! The dad said "We are throwing the fish back, and we mashed the barbs" Not saying they read your post, but they didn't take the time to read & understand the laws. As a guide, you should know beyond any doubt what the laws are! But you should leave all the power bait fisherman alone. Some people don't have the funds to buy a fly rod. Or for that matter, learning how to Flyfish or even wanting to Flyfish. I have not said one thing about Power Bait being bad or wrong. In many years past, when I didn't have funds to buy fly fishing tackle, many a Beaver's Bend trout went home with me after gobbling Power Bait or Salmon Eggs. I still use a spinning rod from time to time, where the regulations allow. There are more conventional Tackle fisherman that run through the river then there are flyfisherman. Just because you're a purist flyfisherman does not mean everybody else is wrong. My clients hire me to be a purist ( Actually throwing size 20 and 22 little midges), conventional Tackle, or just go throw the near deer around and catch butt load of fish as do the other guides. Again, I'm not a purist, and I know there are very few actual purists... Certainly not at Beavers Bend. I have hired Jessie King before. He did not claim that we were going to catch 'a butt load of fish'. He did work with my buddy to show him how to get a drag-free drift & catch more fish than he ever expected to. I again repeat that even your clients are NOT entitled to catch 50+ fish-a-day. For you to poo poo the new Stocking Program when they don't... THAT'S WRONG! I don't Fish anywhere in the world to only catch two or three fish. That's just not how I roll. You may be happy being a purist. But some other people are not purists. Are you Republican Democrat or liberal? - who gives a flying F. Vote or fish however the heck you want to. How I vote is none of your business. Just because you think it's wrong to use a pink near deer does not mean its bad. Remember these are stocked trout. They are not wild trout. Again they are not wild trout. What do you think they stock 6000 Fish every couple weeks? Because they get yanked out or starve to death. I did not say it was wrong to use a Pink Near Deer. I referred to a post where you mis-guided more people than you know about PowerBait Worms. I use every color of San Juan Worm imaginable. Ever tried the new Chamois Worm? Killer!! You have no right to tell people what is wrong and what is not wrong if it is legal. I will certainly tell people that using PowerBait Worms in a Red Zone is NOT legal! So in the meantime I will do what I please -how I want to fish -where I want to fish -when I want a fish -what fly want to fish with. And I'll make sure I have more videos of catching 50+ Fish, just to bore you. Your videos don't bore me. I don't watch them. You are in the entertainment business. It is out of your control as to how many fish are stocked at Broken Bow. I suggest you don't set people's expectations (entitlement) so high. Purist... HA! Is that all you got out of my previous posts?? SHHHH... I even own a bass boat & it's loaded with OMG... conventional tackle!! LOL! JR

PS: An apology to my misguided clients is needed.
I'm sorry if you have been on a trip with me and caught a lot of fish, learned where and when to go. I'll try and buy the flies that split cane buys or ties, so then we can catch 2 to 3 fish per day and my Misguided clients will be a little more happy that way. I'm really sorry, my misguided clients.
Remember Jerry, I'm a World Champion Fly Fisherman! ( misguided world champ )

I think we should all sing Kumbaya and fish as we like as long as it is legal. I do agree with crushing all barbs on all hooks. Guess I'm not all bad.
I have enjoyed reading everyone's opinions, the humor, the sarcasm and wit.
I must confess I have a 7' bamboo fly rod that I've had difficulty desiring to fish with. It's so darned pretty and has great action. Perhaps one day I'll take it to Beavers Bend and christen it. My TFO's are the work horses I use in Texas.

I say we all just go to Spillway creek on stocking day with a HUGE net, do the San Juan Shuffle, and just scoop up the shocked rainbows. Who needs a rod - bamboo, conventional, or graphite? Do the LMF regulations require a rod? I can tie pink Neer Deeres to my laces if that helps. Carey can videotape it and put it on this site, SCR can tell why it's illegal, and CB can be the mediator or commentator. What fun!

I'm thinking the reason the wardens don't enforce the regulations is that they have been told by "higher ups" not to run anyone off because they spend money. I remember when this all first started the wardens were more visible and "worked the crowd"; now you never see one. But, my attitude is it doesn't belong to me; I'm an interloper from Texas; if the people in Oklahoma like it how it is; then its all ok but when I go and cannot catch a few fish, I won't return as often. I rarely heard any complaints about the stocking until the Nebraska dudes started doing the stocking. I never knew the stocking schedule. I go when I want to trout fish as I'm more into fishing than "catching"-p-

The Park & LMF is a "cash cow" for the Park and the local businesses in Broken Bow, Hochatown, etc. etc. I called the Park warden on one bait slinger that hauled two full stringers of trout back to his truck, as I watched him. The warden never showed up! Obviously, the Park Administration doesn't want to P.O. the fishermen & women who want to spend their money helping the local economy. Bill

I only get to fish the LMF a couple of times a year and I really enjoy it when I'm there. I remember years ago on my first trip I was really concerned my smashed down barbs might not pass the warden test of hooking into a cloth and having it come free without catching a thread. The NEXT warden I encounter at LMF will be the FIRST. I agree enforcement is necessary to keep the LMF a fine fishery. I don't know what it is going to take to bring this to reality. I really wonder how much the 'meat fishermen' really spend, especially in the park or to businesses adjacent to the park. How many of them camp or rent cabins? Of course it takes gasoline for their many trips to and from the freezer, but that might not add up to a lot of money. We were there last week and the fishing was tough and the catching almost non existent. It's the first time I've been there that in two days fishing I didn't catch a single fish. Should I blame that on the stocking, etc? No, it's a reflection of my ability, but I didn't encounter any other fishermen that were having any luck either. I do concur that since Paul and James left the area it appears things have deteriorated. I hope the LMFR Foundation is taking notice of the conditions and that some improvement is made in policy, regulation, and enforcement in coming months.

I must look guilty or something. I get checked by a GW every 3 or 4 trips up there. I've never been checked anywhere but at Beaver's Bend. ![hmmm hmmm](/forums/images/graemlins/default/kopfkratz.gif)

JR, you're getting cranky in your old age. Call it what you may. If being cranky is equivalent to telling a bunch of cry-babies to STFU about the non-schedule of the stocking truck, so be it. I don't need to follow the tracks of the stocking truck to catch 20+ fish-a-day, as some mis-guided person here is suggesting. I agree that the rules and regulations of the LMF Red Zones, Blue Zones, and Ozones are not easy to interpret. The blatant disregard for those zones amazes me, too. Cranky? You bet. There aren't any fish left at Beavers Bend, so everyone just stay home! I feel better now! JR

![smile smile](/forums/images/graemlins/default/smile.gif) reminds me of the Paluxy. As JB used to respond to all posts about it on the old TFR "there are no fish in the Paluxy"

Wow, drama.
All I have to say is that the info that Carey has shared for free has been a major contributor to me learning to fly fish, catching my fist trout on a fly in broken bow, and catching my first fish on my own flies (my take on near deers).
I'm going next weekend, gonna be cold, and maybe not a ton of fish, but it'll be awesome any way.
Carey-- does your pink near deer with the tail really work? I'm sure you won't mind if I try to replicate it? I just started tying flies 3 weeks ago, but I hammered the bass and crappie in a pond last week on a olive near deer type thing I tied.
