Yes, there were lots of mullet in the near shore in about 6" of water. There was some weed but not enough to bother my fishing. Of course you can't expect any one day to be like the next when it comes to fishing. Good luck!!
Welcome to Port Isabel curt0407, good luck on your trip with Captain Andrew tomorrow!!

Thanks..FLfishlady. Caught a few tonight from the pier, perch etc. Gonna use the for bait. Would have fished longer, but am tired after the drive down. That and the Cowboys are on the tube.
I did bring my laptop and camera. Should be able to post up some pics.

Had a great trip this morning with Capt. Andrew. He worked hard to get me onto the biggest fish that I have ever hooked into in my life. We started the morning being greeted by a beautiful sunrise over South Padre Island. [/UR
We motored to the end of the jetty on the Boca Chica side.
[URL=http://s847.photobucket.com/user/anglercurt/media/P1000547_zpsb21135a5.jpg.html] At the jetty I was soon hooked into what turned out to be a 20 plus pound Jack. As I was reeling the jack in, i1t was hit by a large shark. It was mortally wounded and we turned it into cut bait. Withing 30 minutes of putting a piece of the jack onto the bottom, a large shark took off with the bait. I was onto a huge fish that I was never able to turn back towards the boat. The fish eventually broke the line. Another piece of the jack went down for a soak. While that was going on I hooked into and got to the boat another large jack, 40 plus pounds. We pulled him off beside the boat. The shark rod went off again and I was back onto what felt like an even larger shark that the one before. Again I was not able to turn the fish back to the boat before it cut the line. We decided after that to head back into the bay. Capt. Andrew was able to catch this very nice trout. We chased schooling fish for a while catching several skipjacks, "ladyfish". We then went back shark fishing but had no luck. By the I was pretty well beat down and we headed in. This is Capt. Andrews 21 footer. This was a great shallow water boat and easily handled waves at the end of the jetty that I had to look up to to see their tops. I think that I am going to try to hook up with Capt. Andrew again weather permitting on Thursday. A major front is supposed to come through Tuesday. Hopefully things will settle down pretty quick. Thanks, Capt. Andrew for a great trip.

Thank! I had a Blast! I checked the weather for Thursday and it looks to be like 4mph winds and 4' waves at 9sec. Should be doable as long as we can get into that protected water on the south jetty. I have grabbed a bigger rod/reel for that shark and we will be able to land him! With the mouth over 12" across its going to be a 150+ shark. I'll be making some 4' steel coated leaders with coated hooks today.

Nasty weather today has shut down the fishing for me. I will do some night fishing tonight. The wind is supposed to settle from the 30mph range later today. Still planning another outing with Capt. Andrew tomorrow, (Thursday)
Took a tour up the island highway and took some pics. I have posted them in the photo section.

Went out with Capt.Andrew again this morning. We were not able to go for round 2 with the sharks. The water was way too rough. We concentrated on bay fishing. It started out pretty chilly, but gradually warmed up. We searched for a variety of fish. I was able to catch a small trout, several small mangrove snapper and a wide variety of other non keeper fish. Finally in the late morning we found a productive stretch of water. Andrew hooked up first, but the fish pulled off. I was then able to hook up with this 25 inch redfish. Another drift produced the last keeper of the day, this multi-spot 21 inch redfish. Thank you Capt. Andrew for your efforts to put me onto fish. I will definitely look you up when we return next year. Now it is time for me to go nocturnal. With the nicer weather, I will be breaking out the fly rod tonight for trout, snook, and skipjacks. Hopefully I can come up with some pics.

Sorry you couldn't do any shark fishing this trip. I'm sure that was a big downer for you! This weather down here sometimes doesn't match the wave action in the Gulf!! Next year I know you can do it! Glad you got those Reds. Your photo looks good but you just don't look happy at all. (I know you let 'em go too!).

I hate to say it, but that is my happy face.lol
Drove out to the beach this morning, Friday. Waves were way up onto the beach, which limited parking availability. I am about to head to the jetty area and fish in the ship channel for a while.

Went to the Jetty around noon since the waves and tide had the water almost to the dunes at Beach Access #5. Did not go out onto the Jetty but did park at the 'statue' and fished on the rocks there. Not one bite on my husband's rod, but I was able to catch 2 pigfish about 8". Put 'em back to grow up some more. The water was fairly calm with no whitecaps in the channel. No weed at all and only once in a while would a wave crash on the rocks scattering droplets of water in the air. I was using a 4 oz. weight on my pompano rig with Fishbites and had no problem holding the bottom. The parking lots were loaded!!!

Was at the end of the jetty early am and was just soo foggy that you can only see about 20 yards. It cleared about 1 pm. The water is clearing up green, hoping for the pompano run. Had fun with the Spanish Mackerel, had my limit of 15 pcs by 2 pm. There is a bunch of ball jellyfish at the end of the jetty so there would be some spade fish soon.
