What kind, and how old/new of bass boat can I expect to get for $12,500 - 15,000? Should engine hours be a concern? What exactly does a compression test show? I can't justify spending much more than the range shown, then again, I don't want to buy someone else's problem. Thanks for your input.

1999-2002 Ranger, 2002-2004 Skeeter, Champion, Triton or Bass Cat, 2005-2006 Nitro. Under 400hrs. Compression shows health of the cylinders and piston rings. Have boat thoroughly examined by a competent boat mechanic. It is always best to buy a boat you know about.

What is a good compression reading? Does it vary from make/model/HP to make/model/HP?

What is a good compression reading? Does it vary from make/model/HP to make/model/HP? yes, an older merc may run 120-140 psi and an older johnson (had one) 115 or so. some of the newer engines 85 or so is the normal. research the engine you want and see what normal is for it, if any of the cyls vary by more than 10% from the others then you have a problem.
