I am in Valley Ranch in Irving and would love to go fishing with more experienced fishermen/fisherwomen.
My funds and gear are pretty limited. I use a hand-me-down 7' medium fast action Kistler pole with a Revo STX baitcaster. The other pole is a 7' Cabelas medium fast action pole with a cheap Daiwa 2500XiA spinning reel (about $125 total for the combo). That's the most I've ever spent on poles and reels.
I've fished the canals up by Vista Ridge Mall in Lewisville and the local ponds around the Carrollton/Farmers Branch/Irving area, mostly looking for weeded areas, but still not as successful as I though I'd be. Either the local ponds have been hit so hard the bass aren't just biting or I'm just not sure how to fish it (I believe it's the second reason.. hehehe).
Thanks for the warm welcomes and if anybody wants to shore fish in the DFW area, shoot me a message.

Go over to LaVillita with a chrome/black rattle trap and fish the grassy area near the big gazebo. You'll catch little 3-4 lbrs all day.Watch for security. They'll run you off, but just go right back. They can't be everywhere at once.
LET’S GO BRANDON!!!

What part of Minnesota are you coming from? I grew up in south Texas but lived in Buffalo, Minnesota for 9 years before moving back home in 2009. The bass fishing in MN is awesome and I know what you mean by it being tougher here. In MN if it looks like it will hold a fish it will, in Texas not so much. I am still trying to figure out these fish down here, Lake Dunlap kicks my butt every time I fish it. I will say that I have moved away from jig fishing and throw a lot more spinnerbaits and cranks here than in Mn. My biggest fish to date is 8.99lbs from Choke and several 7's from falcon on jigs but I seem to catch more fish on spinners and cranks here in Texas. It is frustrating but keep with it. The days of catching 100 fish in a 2 area from one patch of coontail are over but you will catch bigger fish here.

Hey MN2TX, fish the ponds at Riverchase Golf course in Coppell. They are stocked full of fish and you should be able to get rocked. The Lake Fork tackle boot tail swimbait, a KVD swim jig with Ragetail trailer, a spinnerbait and small cranks work well out there. My son puts the hurt on 'em all the time. Good luck!

biscuits: I moved from Oregon to Minnesota in 03 and lived in the NW suburbs of Minneapolis. The fishing is pretty awesome up in Minnesota, especially when the northerns and muskies hit (but only when you're actually aiming for them). As much as I hate losing lure to them, I kinda miss pulling in those northerns and muskies. The lakes around the metro area up there have been hit so hard that there's really nothing left. Our secret lake in the southwestern suburbs was not producing at all the last few years I was in MN. My friend and brothers say it's dead now ever since seeing a couple of people on canoes hoisting strings of bass up. They are within their rights to take fish, but I wish they'd think about conservation more than their stomachs once in a while. Here's some random guy my brother and friend ran into a month back at Lake Calhoun with his muskie. manhunter: I've always wondered if it was legal to fish those ponds. Do I just ask for permission or can I just start casting and step aside when golfers pass through?
