The spin they have put on it is pretty oustanding. Won't be long before they wipe out the Milfoil too. Sad to see it happen, but at least I will be able to say that I got to fish it during the glory days.

Now I'm not suggesting the hydrilla is in good shape or that some day soon it will be gone but TPWD couldn't have survey the upper part of the lake. Most of the fish I caught last weekend were in the few healthy patches of grass I found.

You were seeing grass on the upper end, but it wasn't hydrilla. It was milfoil.

Are the big carp that they catch in fork a different type that doesn't eat the grass? I sure hope so after reading this.

yes, the grass carp is different from the carp we see in all the lakes in Texas.

So according to that story, hydrilla is bad for a lake but milfoil is good?

Here is line from the story -

"As hydrilla declined, milfoil (a less problematic exotic) has increased and is providing critical ecosystem benefits like aquatic habitat, food and oxygen that helps keep the lake healthy without the extremely dense growth of hydrilla."

Just like Hubbard, it was an awesome main lake fishery when it had Hydrilla.

Maybe you're right. I just looked on line at milfoil and it looks a lot like hydrilla to me. I guess the other plant I thought was milfoil is pond weed or something. Obviously I'm no botanist but by my nonscientific test, it looks like bass like milfoil too.

so do the grass carp not like milfoil? sure seems like when they run out of the things they like they will eat other aquatic vegetation rather than starve.

on that note, im curious to see what happen when someone falls off their jetski and ends up in milfoil! guess they will be spraying at that point

What really made me laugh in the article is when it says with the hydrilla gone it will allow the milfoil to grow better and allow for better fishing.

It is amazing how much vegetation those fish went through in such a short time. I'm guessing they're not going to live too long with 95 percent of their food supply gone.
