Man! I booked a trip on Tawakoni last night or I would have jumped on the Saturday trip. If something happens I will be there.

You could take your yak with you and catch the Cooper hybrid matinee show. Lee will have them cornered by then! I'm trying to figure out how I can get there. Not looking good for me...

Funny Henry. Last time I took JT and his brother in law out we did not fare so well! Although I blame that on JT, wait, possibly his brother in law! Alright, been getting PMs about our Texoma honey hole. I decide to post the map of the spot and what works for me. Maybe Henry and Roger will chime in on what works for them. The drop pin marks the spots that had been productive for us. The first pin closest to Highport marina. I recommend trying this spot is you are not in a hurry BUT I would not spent too much time here. It is a stump field here BUT there are quality fish around. The second pin where the cut is where majority of our over fish are caught. I would not hesitate to say the AVERAGE size striper we caught here were roughly 22". You want to position your yak in the middle of the cut and start casting as close to the bank as possible. Once your lure hit the water burn it back to you. Or you can cast a 6" top water plug. You want to be patient and work every single inch of the bank. Hope that helps. The above is what work for me and YMMV. BTW, another spot will be west burn run. I have never fish on a yak but we did pretty good wade fishing. Lee

Maybe Henry and Roger will chime in on what works for them.
The bait I got the good fish with last week was a big Roadrunner with a flip tail trailer. I had better luck In the channel than beating the bank that evening. The graph was the key for me. I knew the fish were there and was fortunate they were feeding. Much better results when I was working the lure too, rather than a straight retrieve. Lee and Roger are both really fun guys to fish with and flat out catch fish. Can't go wrong joining up with either of them.

Yes, those are spots that have produced well. But always keep your eyes open for bait activity - the fish will usually follow. I went up to P'boro last night with plans to hit it this morning at daylight. When I reach Highport road, there is still plenty of dark and 5-6 bass boats at the gas station hanging out....hmmm, those bass dudes must be up early wanting to get the striper bite - but I'm going to get there first - hehe. Halfway down the highport road, I crest the hill and see nothing but tailights for as far as the eye can see.....NOOOOOOOO! As I pull to a stop in line, another truck pulls up behind me - I get out and they confirm what was obvious - bass tourney. They said 140 boats were to be launched. We chat a bit and they offer to help me back up - I'm hauling the kayak with a flatbed trailer and after much work on that narrow road, I get the rig turned around and I am on the way back to the house to cool my heels and actually be productive. Wait, I'm already loaded, I really want to fish and the wind looks like it's staying down - ain't no bassers gonna hold me down and to heck with productivity when there are fish to be harrassed. I head west towards the Russwood launch and back down the ramp to the water, unload and away I go. Almost immediately, I can see bait running for their lives to the west and I pedal like a crazy man - a dozen casts end up with 3 overs (26-28") and the rest in missed blow-ups. It's the start of a good day. But the blow-ups still puzzle me - how is that even possible? Go across to wood island, make the trip through sand bass pass, around treasure island, walked the boat through the cut, and circled up around the far end of North Island. Picked up a couple of sandies, 4-5 box fish and headed back with occassional trips to deep water to see if there is anything to slab.......and there wasn't. Once back at Wood Island, I went towards Mill Creek, around West Island as I have never been there in a yak and headed back to the truck. It's now about 2:00 and bassers have been running WFO back to the marina from all directions so some nice wake to cut through. Overall it was a good morning, after 10:00 was slow but nice day just to be out. Load up yak, ramp is very steep and you have to back into sand to load onto trailer - 2wd spins so I 4LO it out of there and up the ramp. Stop at top of ramp, get everything tied down, put away and take off only to find the truck won't shift out of 4LO........so I drive at a top speed of 15MPH back to the Pottsboro house. Wife comes up to get me but I have to leave truck, the borrowed friend's yak and another friend's borrowed trailer - thank goodness the friends are understanding. The worst part is I think I am going to have to miss a fishing day to get everything sorted out............unless someone has a truck I can borrow.

Haha great report Roger.
I will be launching at Highport tomorrow (Saturday) morning before daybreak if anyone wants to join. PM me and I'll give you my number.
Did we ever figure out if non-trailer vehicles have to pay the $5?

The tournament continues today and from what I was told, there will only be 12 boats on Sat. morning.
Yes, you still need to pay.....you are using the launch. If you don't they actually boot the vehicle - not fun.
The Russwood launch is free, pretty decent and puts you between Highport and Mill Creek. MC has been producing good and I'm guessing the bigger fish I got yesterday were running between there and the Islands. The Russwood launch is actually a corp launch so it is open to the public. However, it is managed by the Russwood HOA and they have posted that they lock the gate at 6pm so that pretty much limits your evening fish. There is very limited parking also so if you go, make sure not to hog space and understand that you may not be able to park if more than a few folks are there - I would expect parking along the road will give the HOA some ammunition to try to limit use. As it currently is, trying to launch a boat of any size there would be difficult - steep and the ramp ends before you get to the water by about 10 feet. Good yak launch however.
