Timing and place on the lake, like any other, at apt in the early spring I would guess between us and 9 other boats fishing within 100 yards we had 200 lbs weighed in. Hard to do this anywhere else in metromess. But it can get dang tough also. You can zero real quick to.

Adam P the tournament with the huge bags was in 97 or 98 and it was a combined club tournament with the old original North Texas Bass anglers and one other club. He couldn't recall the names of that club but Freddy did have 42 lbs and got second. I wasn't there and did not personally witness it but I know the guys pretty well and had no reason to call BS . My living source was a guy named Doug Duncan who used to be in that club.

I'm new to tx and fished RR more than any other lake. I've never been skunked there, I always get something. I fished with Dannie Golden and learned a lot. It's a Great Lake for me. If RR is so tough, I would love to fish the lakes you guys say are easy!

TP&W shock test, RayBob has had the lowest bass ratio in the state 2 years in a row, the florida strain has over-run the native, and the lake is constantly changing due to water level fluctuations. The many droughts have caused the timber to break off at a faster rate and in dangerous for boating water levels. Also the under brush that used to be next to the standing timber has almost completely rotted away along with the grass constantly changing. The bass have to constantly adjust to a new environment changes each year. The average angler does not get the time to spend on the water to follow these changes which is why time on the water is a big advantage. These are my thoughts of why the lake can be so tough, when I was fishing it 4 to 6 days a week it was fairly easy to locate and catch fish now that I mostly fish it in tournaments with very little practice it shows in my below avarage weights. Also (Rabbit) John Jezek and his brother Dan had 43 lbs in a Media tournament, I believe that is the one in question where second place was below 35 lbs.

That's about as good an explanation as I've ever seen. I personally like the lake, but it is one of the tougher fisheries around the metromess. I think part of what overwhelms people is similar to Fork, everything looks good. There is so much bassy looking water, but they are apples and oranges when it comes to fish. Fork has an overabundance of educated fish whereas Roberts has a low population and most rarely see a hook. But the low population is what makes it tough for the weekender.

It goes back the mistake that Florida Strain LM are here. Natives still run the banks in Rayburn and school etc , can handle fluctuations etc. If you've ever bass fished up north for Native Northern strain they are twice as agressive. I imagine our southern natives were in between.

Nobody I know has ever heard of that. It would have had to have been post June 1998. Jezek brothers set Ray Roberts Record...

Well don't know what to tell you. I think it was before and not a bigger trail but a club deal. I understand your skepticism but I'm pretty sure it happened.
