I don't read much about the thrill of fishing Ray Roberts. Why is this?

Because there are numerous larger tournaments out there every year and so everything is now a top secret thing. smile best advice is just to follow Dannie Golden or Barrett McClendon around when they are out there. For me I love fishing that place...tons of variety and lots a big healthy fish.

BACK IN THE DAY........

It was a different lake, I have no idea what happend. Tons of really decent size fish, grass everywhere in huge fields of it loaded with fish. 18 inch MLL , 42 pounds for second in a tournament.

Do you still see a lot of forage/bait fish on your graph? On my home lake you constantly see bait fish on the graph.

That was my impression that it was great, then not so good. Toledo Bend is having another typical outstanding year and there are a bunch of people there who take their catch home to eat.

I'm going to drive about two hrs past Ray Roberts to reach Lake Sardis in Oklahoma. I don't know that lake at all but it was easy to catch some fish.

Just give me a half day and 5-6 fish and I'm happy...but I gather even that could be tough on Ray Roberts.

Never happened.

Rabbit had 41.50 once. Second was something like 35, third 31.

There can be disappointing days of fishing on Lake Ray Roberts, but I still love fishing the lake. I really don't want to go to any other lake to fish. I have been out with Dannie Golden and have learned more about the lake with him than I could on my own and have even caught my personal best of 10# even with him. Fishing Lake R.R. is all a matter of being on the water as much, and as often, as is possible, knowing how to read your electronics, and then knowing the seasonal transitions of the fish. I have caught fish there in every season, high water, low water, grass, then none, to now a little, and with just about every bait I have, and I have more than my boat can hold. I may not catch big fish or great numbers every time out, but that is just fishing. Some days it may be zero and others big fish and a great many in number. You never can tell, but that to me is again, just fishing. It is a beautiful lake to be on and there are plenty of areas where you are not bothered by the pleasure boaters. You have to be careful of trees, stumps and rocks, but those too are obstacles on any lake. I love fishing this lake so much that when I retired I moved to Pilot Point so I could be 6 miles from the Jordon Park ramp, instead of the 65 mile drive each way before moving. Sometimes driving those miles many days a week and just to go fishing on Lake Ray Roberts. Did I mention I still love fishing this lake?

Lots of good points being made. Book a trip with Dannie Golden and pick his brain. There's a RR thread on page 3 or 4 of the Freshwater Reports that has some tips.

I found this old episode of Honey Hole Outdoors that was filmed about a week after RR opened to motorboats. Because of all the timber, visibility was low and they suggested bringing a compass to find your way back to the ramp.

Ray Roberts is great. You'll have upsetting days just like any other lake.
