ouch! I took my hat off one time on a missed hook set. I have since switched to setting the hook while holding the rod at a 45 angle.

A hat and glass are required on my boat... and not too many people as well. This happened to a newbie I brought on board but got him in the lip, a hat would have deflected it.

Ouch. Some years back I had a little dink come off the hook after I had lifted him in the boat....almost the same scenario except I just got a crankbait treble buried in the palm of my hand. There's nothing dignified about showing up at the e.r. with a crankbait still in your hand. Driving the boat to the ramp, loading by yourself, and driving home one handed is over-rated as well.
Now Entering the Black Forest Caution: -camouflage cottonmouths -stumps are perpetually 4" under surface -unforecast windstorms -gators that act funny -game wardens off their meds Have a Nice Day

That gives a new meaning to the term "sight fishing"
and yes folks, it did in fact take me nearly 24 hours to come up with that witty reply...lol
but seriously, I usually wear my polarized shades anytime I am outside, but after seeing this, I will probably carry my clear lens eyepro too!

Ask ole Johnny glass about the need to wear sunglasses. We were fishing with a trap I missed a fish at the boat. Trap ended up in his eyebrow it hit his glasses and slid up to his eyebrow. If not for the glasses it would have went into his eye

Man that is scary. Hope you had a speedy recovery. Hung up a spinnerbait on a tree limb once. Pulled and pulled. Lure flew straight at me like a bullet. My glasses were a life saver. I am much more careful and always wear shades.

With the speed that can be generated by a 1oz flipping weight or 3/4 oz Trap coming loose from a limb or a fish when you have that 7' rod bent double regular sunglasses are not enough they need to be safety lenses
