How much of a line twister is the Mepps (say compared to a Rooster Tail)?

I don't have a line twisting problem with Mepps. Haven't fished a Rooster Tail in years but don't recall having a problem with it either. For me, the only time the line twists is when the Mepps wire is bent or the treble hook is bent and not symmetrical. I check for these things after almost every caught fish.

How much of a line twister is the Mepps (say compared to a Rooster Tail)? I've used Mepps, rooster tail and blue fox all with this technique with very good results

I finally put this technique to use today. I went to Joe Pool, got on the water about 12:30. Scouted around a bit south of, the south, state park boat ramp. No luck so I went to firemans hump. I got in to them better than I ever have. I was beginning to think there were only dinks in this lake. Caught 67 whites and one yellow. All on #4 Mepps. About 10 were under, the rest were up to 13". The first 45 fish were caught in 48 casts. I'm definitely a believer in this technique now. Thanks for all the info Dennis. It is much appreciated.

Dennis what pound test do you use for your Reels? I use a spin cast. Can't seem to throw the #4 far at all on 15 lbs Braid, line just floats. Going to keep doing this till I figure it out Got all my mepps in the other day. Thanks for any info. Noe

Check make sure your line is going through all the guides and not wrapped around the rod somewhere. The right size Spinning reel and rod should cast #4 a long distance. There's Dennis to answer it for ya.

I use 10 or 12 lb fluorocarbon mono line on bait cast and spincast reels and don't have any problem casting. Make sure line doesn't twist as you put it on the reel. For spincast the line has to come off the side of the spool when filling the reel. Put on a little with spool lying on one side and check to see if it is twisting. If so, turn the spool on the other side and continue to fill the spincast. Check periodically as you continue to fill. If twist starts again, flip spool back to other side. Etc.
