I have an HDS8 gen 1 with an older Navionics chip on my console and an Elite 7 on the bow with whatever mapping sw that came with it. I don't use mapping sw for navigation, only for storing and navigating to waypoints. I'm considering buying an HDS7 with either an LSS1 or 2 for this unit and it comes with Lakemaster sw included. My question is will waypoints from one unit be compatible between both units? I will have them connected via Ethernet. I'm assuming this will work but, don't like to assume anything.
Also, if I purchase a Point-1 puck for the HDS7, I understand it will work as advertised? But, seem to recall it only works on HDS8 gen 2 and above? If it would work on the 7, I might swap out the two units placing the 7 on the console so I would have faster updates to get to a waypoint and then slower, as it now is, updates on the bow which would be ok until I am forced to update to a gen 2 unit on the bow. Any comments?

Okie, when the Point 1 first came out Lowrance said it would not work with gen 1's, well apparently they were wrong because they work back to/with the old 520's. I want to get one but have had a few major expenses the last few months, eventually.
On the Lakemaster thing I have no clue, in fact I thought Lakemaster wouldn't even work on the new Lowrance graphs. Maybe it's just the features that won't work?

David, I have the NMEA 2000 connecting my HDS8 gen 1 to my Elite 7 and it still does not share waypoints. For some reason, new waypoints are shared....sometimes....but, not all times. But, the old waypoints in my HDS 8 will NOT share on the Elite 7.
So, will the Point 1 work on my gen 1 or not? I keep hearing conflicting reports. If it does, maybe it doesn't use all the features of the Point 1? I'm tempted to buy one and try it and see for myself.

Yes it will work. Go over to bassboatcentral.com Lowrance page and read all the post about it. Or go to the FAQ on Lowrances site and it says it will work, apparently when it first came out they wrote it would not be compatable. It must work better (maybe quicker????) with the gen 2 though since there are updates for the point 1 & gen 2's.

I have the point-1 connected to my HDS-7 Gen1 and it works great. At first I used it for both the GPS antenna and the heading sensor and had no problems. I now just use it as the heading sensor since the Point-1 is mounted at the Stern and the HDS-7 is at the bow. I use the HDS-7's internal antenna for GPS. On my console mounted HSD-8 GEN2 I use the point-1 for both GPS and heading sensor. Below was taken from the Lowrance FAQ.
Will Point-1 work with my HDS Gen1? The Point-1 antenna/heading sensor is a standard NMEA2000 device. Therefore, it will connect to any NMEA2000 backbone and communicate with any NMEA device on that same network. The HDS Gen2 models, both keypad and touch, with software version 2.0 or higher will have GPS damping and filtering features, as well as the ability to initiate heading calibration from the HDS, that will not be present in any HDS Gen1.

Just got a HDS7 Touch and am amazed at what I have been seeing. Pics were taking with a cell phone so not even close to what they look like in real time. Anybody want to buy two used HB units?!?!?

On the right side of the screen of the touch units is your menu for that screen. So if you are in structue scan the menu on the right if for structure scan. Instead of scrolling right or left with that menu, pull your finger down from the top and it will have a different menu. In that menu should give you the options for overlays. Let me know if it works for you.

I'm trying to connect a point1 antenna and can't find the NEMA2000 kits anywhere. Is that an item that always has to be ordered?

I'm trying to connect a point1 antenna and can't find the NEMA2000 kits anywhere. Is that an item that always has to be ordered? We have the NMEA 2000 starter kits in stock. The NMEA 2000 network is required in order to add any external antenna to your Lowrance HDS/LCX/LMS unit. If you are wanting to share the antenna with more than one unit, you may need more T-Connectors and extension cables than comes in the kit. I would be happy to discuss what parts you need and how they should be wired up. Just give me a call.. Brian 888-570-0916

BBG is a good choice. On another note though, it's "NMEA", not "NEMA", an extremely common confusion (nearly every thread on the subject has many people putting NEMA). Could be why it's harder to find in searches though . NMEA = National Marine Electronics Association (boat electronics) NEMA = National Electrical Manufacturer's Association (home electricity).
