Ok, taking a day off next week to float the new Yak at Grapevine. Any advice on the the best place to put in? I do want to get the line wet and cast some too but mostly I just want to get comfortable with the new yak. Not sure where to fish there either....

There is a decent breeze this afternoon so I would suggest Twin Coves to give you some cover.

What are you looking to catch? Just FYI, it gets too skinny for me to get to the lake in my outback from the trophy club ramp. You can portage if you don't mind walking knee deep in chocolate pudding though.
Fish eat things. I'll put things in the water that fish like to eat. I'll attach these things to a hook, line, rod, and reel. How hard can this be?

Murrell Park is free for entry. The ramp is closed for boaters, but you can cart or carry to the base of it and put in there with plenty of room to park since the ramp is closed. Murrell is close to lots of great fishing, and you can paddle over to Twin Coves if you are feeling adventurous to get back into some flooded timber. There are some good coves and lake points to fish around that area, and plenty of shoreline boulders and stair step rock formations.
I was out there last week for my vacation and had some luck fishing top water cranks above the pea gravel shorelines and deep water cranks further out over the drop offs. Lizard pattern soft plastics are also good producers around shoreline cover, docks, and boat ramps(that are closed, don't get in the way of the boaters, they WILL run you over without a second thought).

Hey, thanks for all the good input! I will start and check it out next week. I'm really looking forward to getting out and then to lake hop to some other lakes.

I second Kuel, I put in at Trophy club a few weeks back and it was pretty tight and shallow, but if you want a Gar that seemed to be the place. The last few weekend i have put in at Katies Woods by the Gaylord. The ramp is still open so you can back down and unload on the sand. Once in i paddled out to the point in front of the glass cactus and picked up a few sandies. Also its only a short(ish) paddle to the dan and work the rocky shore toward the marina. I haven't been too focused on large mouth yet because i was waiting for the GTG to get some rigging tips, but i'm all rigged up with a couple extra rodholders and crate so it's on for sunday.
