I really enjoy watching tournaments and wish they would show more. I like Bassmasters Winning Ways. I like shows that talk about and teach techniques and talk about bass behavior and how to find them. I like extreme angler, Timmy Horton, Bill Dance etc. I have learned from shows like this and definitely improved by watching them.

ezgoing, interesting points. I can see what you mean about the tournament shows.
UMF was unique, hope they bring that back. MLF is going in the right direction.
I would like to see that Austin episode. Shows with "hard product sells" are turn-offs?

Shows with "hard product sells" are turn-offs? I don't mind shows selling products if they teach you how to use them in the show. But if the entire show is how great the product is and just shows the host and the sales agent pulling in one fish after another using the product, then I feel the show is rigged. If they show different techniques for using the product and happen to catch a few fish while showing you, then that is acceptable to me. I might not buy the product but I will learn something, which is why I watch fishing on TV.

As far as education about how to catch fish goes, I don't think there's a better fishing show than Flats Class. Even though it's geared toward inshore fishing, you can apply a lot of it to almost any kind of fishing. Lots of how/why, lots of good ideas about breaking down the water, details on rigging, boat positioning, dealing with weather and water conditions, etc.
The Lindner shows and Addictive Fishing (Blair Wiggins) are a close second as far as being good shows for learning. Also Shallow Water Angler was a great learning show.
As was mentioned, I think bringing the existing Lindner format to Southern waters would make for a successful show. Unfortunately, a lot of what northern anglers deal with (cold clear water, natural lakes, wide rocky navigable rivers, ice, trolling as a technique, difference in species) just doesn't apply as much here, giving the shows limited value for Southern anglers.
Personally, I prefer the religious stuff to be left out. It takes away from time that could be used talking about fishing techniques or products. I can tune in to a religious show if I want to see that.
I do like Bassmaster and FLW as tournament shows, especially Bassmaster as they tend to break things down and show exactly how guys are catching fish and dealing with tournament issues. However, both shows started dubbing in fake cheering during the weigh-ins, which makes me think they might be changing their focus to make the shows seem more dramatic or something.

I like them all. The worst fishing show beats no shows at all. I prefer the tournanent type shows. Bass Champs and the TTT shows are my favorites. Love Basswest, Bassmasters, and FLW. Also like the PAA show

"Lost Lake" is one of my favorites. It's interesting to see a pro break down a new body of water. The techniques are described well and there is not a hard sell of products. Some of the best episodes are the ones they struggle to put a keeper in the boat because they explain their logic on bait selection, presentations, and when it's time to move.

When they go all infomercial for their sponsors it turns me off. Anything sponsored by strikeking is just such a show, plenty of promise until they start shoving their product down your throat. I love the Linder stuff but I just don't fish grass lakes in MN, would be great if they'd get away from there for an episode or 2.

Bassmasters, FLW, Bill Dance, Jimmy Houston, Roland Martin, Hank Parker, Stihl's Reel In the outdoors, Major League Fishing, One more cast with Shaw Grigsby, Scott Martin Challenge. Those are the ones I watch. I watch others, but those are my favorites. I wish Ultimate Match Fishing was still on. That was a good show I love all these shows. I have all but quit watching WFN because its either an infomercial or guys fishing in Canada in places 90% of us will never be able to afford to go. I would rather see more shows showcasing lakes in the USA where most working class people can get to. Just my opinion.

Good information. Thank you. A few of these shows are new to me, I will try to set them up to record if they are available to me. Personally, I prefer the religious stuff to be left out. It takes away from time that could be used talking about fishing techniques or products. I can tune in to a religious show if I want to see that. I agree with you 100% here. Religious and political views have no place in a fishing show nor a fishing forum. Religious and political viewpoints should not even be allowed in the signature blocks in fishing forums. Frankly I don't want to hear or read about anybody's religious or political viewpoints when I am interested in learning about fishing techniques or what is happening on the lakes around me. Haven't seen FLW but I quit watching Bassmaster several years ago. At that time they were all the same, just different locations. They may have changed their format in recent years, guess I need to watch one again to see if they now provide any worthwhile information. My two favorites are Parker and Houston. Both teach as they fish. Houston does do some selling shows but he teaches how to use the product as he sells the product so the shows are still interesting. I also enjoy Roland Martin when he does fresh water fishing and some of the Honey Hole episodes.

I will chime in on this, much LESS bass fishing, LESS tournaments, more about the every day fisherman that fishes for stripers, catfish, crappie, etc. Most of us here are not the 'pros' with the free $$$ boats and all the advertising on their shirts, just everyday people and that's what I would like to see more of, like someone with a 16 yr old boat like mine not the latest $$$ that most can not afford or will never pay off. Possibly a show on setting up Sonar units, not just the latest but some older units that many of us use. A family trip for sand bass, farm ponds, saltwater party boat trips, etc. These things seem to not be shown or very seldom. I have said enough, just my thoughts....

I like watching them when I have nothing to do. Only thing is if you pay attention sometimes they do the bait and switch on the lures. One time they were on falcon showing how they were catching fish with dark jig and before my eyes it switched to pumpkin colored jig.

Average Angler Adventures with Glen Pla out of Tampa Bay. Flats fishing, wading, kayaks for snook, reds, bass fishing...he does it all. Same show concept in Texas should work well

I like FLW, Major League Fishing, Hank, Shaw, your show, etc. Do not care for Bill Dance anymore because you can tell he is fishing a stock tank every show. I personally would like to see more shows totally accessible from internet. Let's face it, thats where we are going, so be one of the first to bring the whole show to it! We still watch the commercials, so what's the problem? Thanks for listening!
