Zoom for flukes but try strike kings version of a baby brush hog. Only good for 1-2 fish but they're killer!

Any particular colors/style you recommend for the Zoom?

I use zoom when I want to keep the bait on top or just below the surface. Strike king when I want it to stay below the surface. The strike king are a little heavier and bigger bulk and it makes a big difference when they are keyed on a certain presentation. I really like sk ghost shad or kvd magic.

Yeah I noticed that too about the Zooms being lighter and staying on top a bit longer. I have used the Baby Bass, Pearl & Ghost Shad..but my favorite has to be the smokey shad. Hard to find the other colors at any of the stores. I like the ghost shad but it just doesn't have the durability of the others.

I always use Zoom out of habit -- been working great for me for years. But I may try Big bites for the price. I used their stick baits the other night and they worked just fine and for way less money than other brands.

This is a lot of Zoom preferred customers. I wonder..have you all tried using the other brands, I guess in my case the KVD Flukes? Since I'm still fairly new to bass fishing, just trying to get some pointers and Flukes were really the first soft bait I used with any success.

It's like any of these type questions, What's the best reel?, What's the best whatever?... Most of us haven't tried everything in a category. As for flukes, I've fished just about everything out there (I'm sure I'm missing some), including hand poured. And I don't recall any that I thought wouldn't work well. Being new to fishing, I would suggest you start off with less expensive plastics before you get addicted to the "designer" stuff. Big Bites, for example, are usually very effective and they're a good deal cheaper than most any other brand.

I've had days when they would eat the Strike King better, days where they would eat the Zoom better, and days when it didn't seem to matter. Same goes for all types and different brands of soft plastics. It's best to experiment.

Thanks Jpost. Yeah that's basically the reason for my question. The price of KVD seems a bit high. Extra $2 per bag.

on a recent tournament my buddy was throwing a KVD fluke on a weighted hook and I was throwing a Zoom super fluke on a weighted hook. On that trip the Zoom did better than the KVD. We both had limits on these baits, but I did catch several bigger fish than he did. I really don't think it makes a lot of difference. Just so you have confidence in what you are throwing.

I always throw mine weightless. Tried with weighted hook once but the weight in hook wouldn't fit through the fluke. I believe I've seen video on correct way to hook it but was in boat at the time.
