I've noticed some rod makers have drop shot specific rods that are a light power rod (ie. All-Star Team, G-Loomis, and some others). Would these really have enough backbone for some good sized bass? Would that depend on how much cover is around?

Any recommendations on a bait casting rod that would be a good all around rod? I have never fished a drop shot rig but want to try it out.

To many variables. Sometimes spinning gear and 6lb line, sometimes a flipping stick and 65lb braid.
The drop shot can be a finesse or a power finesse bait.

I use a baitcast with a falcon lowrider 6'8 rod. Works well for me, if you think I'm wrong. Stick with what you want and then I'll fish how I want. I think how you work the dropshot and what you have on it is the biggest deal not your equipment. Thats just me tho.

My falcon lowrider is real sensitive when fishing a drop shot. Its a 6'8 and I have a 6'6 thats sensitive too. I have fished t-rig, dropshot, spinnerbait etc... on it.

I have been throwing drop shot pretty much exclusively for the past 6 months and let me tell you, I have fallen in love!!! I throw mine on a bait caster with a 7 foot medium rod with 15 pound invisx. I put the weight anywhere from 4-8 inches below the hook. I also use regular offset hooks for my drop shot and hook it like you would a Texas rig. I like to use either the 3/16 or the 1/4 oz weights just depending on how deep and how windy it is where I'm fishing. Ive never fished it vertical yet I just always throw it out and work it back like you normally would with any tx rig but I hop it instead of dragging it. Trick worms seem to work really well. Try it and you will be happy I promise!
