Brian .... I been thinking about this. Why are you thinking we could only drop 4 - 5 lines at a time. now I understand that if there is a current of any degree but with no current I can't see why we couldn't drop 8 - 10 lines down. That would mean a three man rotation. Knowing me I don't think I will want to winch fish up from 1000' + more than a couple of times. If that.

I was thinking just that. We don't need braid that is high dollar or even high test for that matter. I think I recall that most of their electric reels are 4/0 aren't they? They probably don't have more that 150 yards on them and I believe it's 50# test. I we spliced a topshot of 50 or 60 (300 yd spool) that would not only get us down to the bottom but would put the braid on bottom where it would be beneficial. A 300 yd spool of cheap 50 - 60 pound braid is only about $25. I'd be willing to do that

from the information I've gathered, it appears that with current/drift the line gains a lot of scope, therefore
the boat has to back down on the line to keep it vertical.
the back of the scat cat is only so wide. I don't think a drift presentation is right, but I could be wrong. if that is good & we can drift beam-to, hell yes.
it appears to me boat-positioning is key in this stuff, & maintaining position with lines down is even more important,
therefore I thought anything more than 5 is gonna be hard to manage.
this is my opinion. might be full of [censored], don't know until I/we hear Capt's thoughts.

Could be Brian .... I don't have a clue. I do know the current calls the game. I read on a recent 80 hr DD trip where deep dropping for Tiles was limited due to current.

It just seems to me that if we get lucky and have no current we could fish more. The capt. will know.

Like Mike said ..... these conversations are just for fun until we get Porkchop involved.

I have a 114 full of braid. Someone pick it up and use it just for deep drops so y'all don't have to burn one of your tuna setups. It's on a big Chaos stick so its ready.

I also have a Penn 6/0 .... one of the old style .... that is full of 100# test mono. It's on a 6' 80 - 100# rod. Not sure I can afford to fill that sucker up with braid .... especially just for this.

Does anyone happen to know what size the electric reel plugs are on the Scat Cat? 15amp? 20amp? 30amp? Perhaps someone can show a picture of the plug configuration.

Might be a 30amp if all the plugs on the rail are on the same circuit. I'm betting it's only a 20amp feed though

So .... what's the plan on talking to Porkchop about the possibilities of doing some deep dropping for Tiles? Is Willie or someone lined up to talk to him? I'm over there now and then and could put a bug in his ear. I would especially like to get his take on maybe topping off their electrics with some braid and using them. And also get his idea on how many could deep drop at a time.

I just read a report on the latest Captain John 48 hour where they tried deep dropping but the current was bad.
