Yeah, slodsm, agree a lot of folks exaggerate. I've seen legitimate 3 footers on every lake I mentioned though. Actually I catch more fish on Amistad in miserable 1.5-2 ft waves. I nearly fall out every cast but I have always caught fish floating grass in those conditions

According to the reference pictures I change my estimate to 7 footers

I would say Cedar Creek in a 16 foot Skeeter and Falcon in a 20 foot Skeeter 15 miles south of the ramp with a 10-15 mph wind outta the south. The waves just felt like they kept getting bigger and bigger.

Filled one boat up on Falcon when it was full in 1981 or 2. Falcon gets my vote.

All the big lakes get rough, Amistad, Big Sam, Texhoma they all get rough. Livingston had a perfect storm in the early 90's and probably swamped as many boats in one day as any like in Texas.

I got the pee pee scared out of me on Choke when it was full coming out of the River long time ago. Headed out around Mason Point to Calliham ramp one time, It got wicked trying to keep from getting swamped and spearing tree stump I didn't know existed. I can't remember how many boats swamped that day but it was a few. I would have never guessed Choke would have got that rough.

Thanks, Billy

Any day they call for 15 mph on Rayburn you can count on 20-25 and big waves. There is no place to hide on Toledo Bend you have to battle big waves to get to the ramp.

Interesting read across the board, any lake can be a bear in the wind, its a given.

But I will second Kens opinion on Conroe, on a calm day in the summer, it is a beyotch. The entire lower 2/3's of the lake is bulkheaded for the most part. When waves hit an open bank the energy is dissipated (sorry I'm an engineer). On Conroe the dang things come back at you bigger, and in an awkward pattern. I've had rebound waves nearly knock me out of the boat, and they were not that bad going the other way.

And yes someone commented about being sore after a day on Conroe, yep me too!

It has to get honorable mention for the washing machine effect due to boat wake. The wind can be less than 10mph and it can be rougher than Hades. It comes from all direction.
