Glad no one was hurt. I have always wondered why more guides don't back theirs in themselves. I launched from Val's back in the day a few times with a well know guide and he had a short bed Chevy and you really could not stop it once it got rolling until you hit the water. I personally would not trust some unknown person to back mine unless he assured me he was very well familiar with backing a trailer.

would the other alternative be any better? have someone who's rarely, or never, operated a boat be in charge of the boat?

Easy. Launch like you're launching solo.

You never know what will happen at the boat ramp.

I was at 515 ramp in the spring and heard a customer ask a guide if he wanted him to back in his boat and guide politely told him he would do it... not sure how many guides allow their customer s to back in $100k worth of truck/boat but would guess none, unless they were very familiar and/or good friends...

glad no one was hurt...

What about letting a guide help you pull yours out?

I've backed in for every guide I've ever had.. most times I've met them moments before they ask me to back them in..

Yall stop pickin on poor Cody that does suck though. If it was me I wouldn't let a customer do either unless I knew he had his own boat and knew what he was doing.

Never seen a guide let his customer back him in.

Personally, I wouldn't let someone I'd known for 5 minutes back my truck/boat in. And mine is worth much, much less than any guide's setup. And it's not essential to my livelihood either. Seen too many idiots who don't know how to back a truck down to let just anyone behind the wheel.

I have been with Pack 3 times over a year and backed his rig every time. I think they have a gut feeling who to let run their equipment.

I had a customer jack knife my trailer in the parking lot 4 years ago after backing me in and going to park my truck. I do everything myself now. He was supposed to be experienced. lol
