I am thinking about going to tawakoni for the first time on Friday. Any suggestions on what end of the lake to stay on to do some hybrid and cat fishing? A name of a place to stay on the lake would be nice too.. Thanks!!!

Thanks for the report Matt! Always helpful! Good to see you and Joe out there yesterday. Late morning some birds drew us to some heavy schooling action at the Wolf humps in 6-10 fow. Gizzard shad were flying out of the water. Topped off the box with magnum sandies. Perfect opportunity for some Flee Flicker Fly's and Gummy Minnows from Moes. Cant wait for Kahuna Spoon time you mentioned. I'm terrible with live bait!

Right across the road from the marina too! The humps between Holiday and Wolf have been good. Fish schooling spurratically about any time of the day!

Hello, Matt! I'm bringing a friend over to Tawakoni Monday. I remember last year there were some posts about not catching and releasing hybrids and stripers in the heat this time of year. They seemed to be OK when you release them but then they float back to the top and die. Is that a problem right now? Should I plan to bring an ice chest to keep any we may catch? Thanks in advance for any info on this.

When I hang a Gasper Goo that is usually a good luck indicator that the fish are starting to bite.  Dennis we caught a lot of Hybrids at Cooper last weekend and had no problems releasing them except 1 that was gut hooked and we ended up giving that fish to the boat next to us.  Good luck at Tawakoni.

Hey Dennis we never had any issues on catch and release on large or small hybrid / striper and of even sandies! We've thrown fish back at peak heat and in the winter month (s) at Tawokani and Hubbard.. No problem!! I'm not saying it never happens though..... Good luck and catch some Bigguns !!

Lake Tawakoni State Park and Holiday Marina are both located off of highway 47 north of Wills Point.
