Looks like dado joints. Is that hardwood? it's got to be unless he just veneered the whole thing. I'd like to do it all in mesquite but dang that would be expensive... maybe i could do it with pine and just stain it. You can use a dye instead of stain and get an even color on pine instead of the grainy splotchy look you get with stains on pine. Mesquite would look good. Someday I'm going to buy me a big bandsaw and cut my own.

Someday I'm going to buy me a big bandsaw and cut my own. i'd like to do that too. my next project i'm going to make a table top out of mesquite with the raw edge on the outside. wife like the farm house legs and what not so i'll probably be keeping a raw mesquite top and let her paint/antique or whatever she calls it the legs and apron.
