So far down here on the Guadalupe River I have not seen any fish with eggs in em this summer. I have heard that Crappie spawn twice a year and if conditions are right they may spawn a third time. I don't know for sure this is just what I have been hearing and told.

Only spawning once a year sounds like what happens to guys after they have been married 20 years. If I was a crappie, I would want to spawn more than once a year too!!
See you on the lake and have a great day!

I say all the time because its the simplest equation. Crappie and other fish dont know Easter from christmas or spring from fall...they know water temp. And it hits the 70s twice a yr

Here's a thought ChrisH20s raised when we were talking. Seems like one thing is missing in this multiple spawn theory. And where are the dark colored males? Do any of the males have sperm sacks? Pretty eggs with no fertilization do not a crappie hatch make. So says Yoda.

Many good points, and I'm not closed mind on his matter, especially 2 things posted: 1) 3" crappies yr round 2) where are the males with their tuxedos? (Could it be that the males do not have to change color to be in fertilization mode?) I can't rule out anything...except, wouldn't marine biologist written something concrete in their finding? We don't really have any scientific piece of discovery. One would think by now some parks and wildlife dept would have more concrete on this matter?

Or was that testing it? I would like to see the next egg picture on a news paper where we could see the true date. I ain't buying it. Fish Biologist Ketchn, wasn't listed on the TPWD web site, when I contacted the State Fish Hatchery today. I am sure that will be corrected by tomorrow also. Stupid!

If yall ain't ever caught crappie w egg sacks on them outside of spring... I say u ain't done much crappie fishing...seriously. I catch eggy crappie al year most every year. Ain't just ketchn saying it. And just in the last wk, I've seen at least 3 different guys posting pics of eggy females. Some folks just always got to pick an argument and call someone wrong. But I for one know this to be true. Its widely known that crappie will form and hold egg sacks throughout the year
