Fished Lake Calavares and caught some of those "Cally Slabs"! The bite was good. The fish were holding in a creek channel in 5 to 6 feet of water. Bottom techniques were used along with the bait of champions worms. Ended up catching eight very nice Gills in the 8 to 10 inch range. Ten smaller Gills in the 5 to 7 inch range along with two small Rios rounded out the catch. Fished from 6:30am till 10:30am . All fish were released to fight again. A pretty good morning catching some Cally Slabs. It don't get any better. fish

Side Note: Stopped at a local Jim's Restaurant and finished the day with a late breakfast. thumb

Looks like you tied into some nice ones, Chuck! Creek channel 'gills can be hard to beat! One of the best summer bream spots you can find. I went fishing today but was only on the water for half an hour before a storm came rolling over the mountains. The lightning out here seems to sneak up on ya faster than back home. Glad to see Cally still producing some good coppernoses!

Thanks for the reply "Jagg"! cheers I met a person the other day who has fished Cally all of his life. He take his kids out there often. They usually bank fish for the Reds. He told me of several spots that were good bank spots to catch Gills. He said he has caught a bunch with his cast net trying to get shad.He told me where one of the creek channels runs and to cast out into the channel. It paid Off! hooked

Side Note: Where are you fishing at. Sounds like Colorado. hmmm

Nice catching, Banker. I need to get out and hunt some gills, but I don't like the heat. Supposed to be 100+ for the next week.
