Does anyone have positive or negative input on Phoenix Boats? Obviously they are good boats, I just rarely see or hear about them. I will be in the market for a new to me Bass boat and these have caught my eye. And they are nasty looking!

I rode in one at rayburn. One awesome boat! They have it all. Im in the market also. Its either phoenix or bass cat. Go to ships marine website and look at the colors os the new 921 they just got. Most awesome colors ive ever seen. Its black, grey, and lime green. You just have to see it.

I have no experience with Phoenix Boats, Clay.
My best advice would be to look at resale values of Phoenix in 2010-2012 compared to known industry leaders in that category.
Phoenix is a relatively new company, so you'll probably want to pay more attention to value relative to the competition. Since inception of the brand. In other words, are resales increasing in % of value when compared to leading brands? And is that growth consistent over the period?

I just got my 2014 721 ProXP about 3 weeks ago. I ordered it from Shipp's Marine in Gladewater (Brent Abernathy). Service and the price on the boat were outstanding even though they are 3 hours away for me. I looked at every major brand out there before buying and I believe I got the best boat made for me. Super ride, great hole shot, and tons of storage. I am 59 years old and this will be my last new boat so re-sale wasn't a consideration, but I suspect it will be okay. Be happy to show it to you if you want to look at one without having to leave the metroplex.

Good for you Grumps! Congrats on the new rig.
And you bought it from some of the finest folks in East Texas and the boating industry. Just like Rockwall Marine, I'd trust Shipp's Marine with anything related to my boat (and have) with the utmost confidence in workmanship, honesty and integrity.
The Shipp family has treated me like their favorite customer, since the first time I walked through their doors.

Clay,
Do your home work. Drive as many as you can..if I was buying a new boat Phoenix would be in my top 2. Go to BBC and ask around...pick up the phone and call the plant and ask to speak with Gary Or Hank. Their customer service is second to none. Good luck shopping

I have owned boats for over twenty years and I bought a Phoenix a year and a half ago. It is the best boat I have ever owned and I am sold. Great customer service, great rough water ride, great livewells, and it drives like a corvette. Just take a ride in one and that's all it takes. It was designed by fishermen and has a lot of neat ideas.

Ask Darold Gleason, he's experienced a few of them. Because new and still getting word out their prices come in below the other new boats. When looking at deprecation as Fouz says keep that in mind. I honestly think they are one of the best and innovative boats for the dollar. New name, but old school experienced development team from other companies.

I've fished in a 618 several times. It's the smallest boat they make but it still has great layout and innovative storage. You can definitely tell that it is designed by serious fisherman. My Cat doesn't leave me with boat envy very often, but I like that Phoenix. Also, when in the back of Kickapoo, it doesn't make a sound when sliding over stumps. Appears to be very solid.

my dad has a 721 pro xp it is by far the best riding boat i have ever been in!!! They have alot of cool features such as the net storage, tool holders, snake light, etc. The only complaint on the 721 is, is the deck is a little narrow compare to the skeeter he use to have however the 921 is more comparable to the skeeter. overall awesome boats go see ships marine in gladwater top notch guys.

I'm looking at the 721 ProXP also for a purchase next year. Where is the closest dealer around Austin?

Chris, Phoenix's website doesn't show any dealers near Travis Co. The closest to Austin is Shipp's. You could do most of it over the phone and finalize (or bail) in person. Gladewater is about 5 hours from Austin. alan21 in San Angelo, where did you purchase your Phoenix?

I heard there was a dealer in Livingston....But have been unable to find any info. I was hoping to be able to get "touchy/feely" and get a demo ride before jumping in with both feet. This will be my first boat BTW.....coming from the kayak world!

I believe there are only 3 dealers in Texas. Capt. Kirk's in Spring, Shipp's, and I can't remember the other. I talked to both Kirk's and Shipp's and Shipp's hands down for me was the go to dealer. I ended up making the deal and ordering the boat via email and the phone. Absolutely the easiest big ticket purchase I have ever made. I can't say enough nice things about their service. A wonderful family business since 1955.

Clay do your homework. Write down what you want and the price you are willing to pay. I keep an open mind on brand and went where the deal was. I bought my triton in Missouri back in 2007. I will say get the biggest motor you can afford. At least 225 if not 250. It will help in resale later on down the road. Best of luck in finding your new ride.

PM Derek Grier. He has a nice one too. I rode in Derek G's boat and it was amazing. I really like the layout and all of the extras. The net storage, the lazy susan, lighted compartments and it looks just beautiful. That was the fastest that I had ever been in a boat. AWESOME!!!

A friend of mine has ordered a 721 from Shipps. He's been waiting 13 weeks. Was supposed to be here in 12. He has a 621 I believe. It rides very well. Very similar to the other boats just less expensive. Had I had the extra to spend I would have checked into these boats.
Good luck and safe fishin'!!!!

We delivered a beautiful 721 Phoenix boat today for one of our wounded soldiers. He was happier than a chicken on a June bug.

I have fished out of my bud Derek's Pheonix a lot and I have nothing but good things to say about it. Very impressive ride in rough water!! Honestly, if I had the money to buy a new boat it would be a Pheonix.

Check out Bass Boat Central, there are several for sale, there is one in Prosper, Tx that would be worth consideration. But you are right, they are all 2011-2013.

I bought Darold's 2012 721. I researched for 6 months and everything pointed to the Phoenix. Best thing to do is take a ride in one on rough water. That's the best way to judge a boat's performance in my opinion and mine has far exceeded my expectations in every aspect of performance. Just pull the trigger. You will absolutely love it.

At this stage of the game there is very little room for even a good boat because of paybacks and other money, Triton Gold and on it goes, - the resale is not as good on a minor company and that is all they can ever be unless the Triton, Ranger, Straros people buy them out - Skeeter is very small if you get out of Texas by the sales number so a very small company that might produce a very good boat has very little chance of going far but locally - they don't have the billoions to back them and in turn the resale is not up to par with the big boys

A salesmen at Shipps was telling me one of the persons that put together the Phoenix was the designer of the Champion boats thus coming up with the name Phoenix (raised out of the ashes). I recently had my boat worked on at Shipps and they are great people to work with. Good luck with whatever boat you choose.

Bad resale? And he can't find a used one because there are not a lot for sale? Those two statements don't jive...supply and demand..these boat are just not big in Texas yet..

Texas areas (and I'm sure other states) have "brand loyalty clicks" based around the tournament scenes and incentive payout programs. In some areas you are even looked down upon if you buy certain brands over others. I'm sure as time goes on, Phoenix will establish more and more of a foothold on this market. I know when I pull the trigger......it's going to be a Phoenix!

Some used boat prices are just laughable. The lowest on the totem pole ( no disrespect ) would be the Nitro. Now, given the price comparability on "new" boats, the Nitro is more affordable. So a 3 or 4 year old Nitro will be less expensive than a 3 or 4 year old Skeeter or Legend or Ranger ect. ect. You will find those used boats for sale that were 60k brand new, now they are 10 years old and worth 20k but up for sale by owner at 35k which is beyond me. People seem to be "really" proud of what they owe, or what they think their boat is worth to them, versus what the boat is really "worth". The "new boat sales" of skeeter might be larger in Texas, but most anglers are searching for used boats due to the fact of increased cost of a new boat. About 30% of used boats I find in the 20k range are in Texas, the rest are Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, the list goes on and on. Anyway to get to the point I believe companies like Phoenix Boats are like hidden gems that everyone wants, but decide to believe the hype and choose a "proper" brand. There is a reason why some of the best anglers in the world have chosen Phoenix, and that's good enough for me to decide to be interested in them.

Exactly- it's called "sponsorship". New companies need good marketing. Those pros prob have the best deals out of all the brands. I would own a Phoenix, just from hearing Jay talk about his. Plus, they have a fast hull and the first one to the spot owns it.

I got to go fir my first ride in a 721 with a 225 sho and that thing is nasty. Not only was it the best looking boat ive ever seen but it was ridiculously fast out of the hole. And cut through the rough water like no other. When i can afford one ill have a phoenix for sure!

I heard there was a dealer in Livingston....But have been unable to find any info. I was hoping to be able to get "touchy/feely" and get a demo ride before jumping in with both feet. This will be my first boat BTW.....coming from the kayak world! That's where I bought my Phoenix, but they don't sell them any more. I have a 721 I bought in Nov. 2009. I don't see any reason to sell it. (Although a new 921 is tempting.) Like another gentleman said, and after nearly 40 years of boat ownership, it is 'probably my last boat purchase'. I bought the one I thought would last me the rest of my life.

I will be looking at new or slightly used boat in the next year or so, and the more I see the more and more I am leaning towards one. The folks I know who have ridden in one or own one I haven't heard one bad thing about them yet.

The only bad thing I have heard about Phoenix is that it is narrow and doesn't have a lot of front deck space compared to the other leading brand boats. But I am also in a 19 foot skeeter at the moment and I guarantee anything 20 foot plus is better than what I'm in now.

The 920 and 921 both have a HUGE front deck,, they set up with a front deck more like the Rangers.. The 721 has a narrow deck but its still enough for 2 people to fish off of.. I will try and get you guys some pictures.

Bottom line a boat is not a good investment no matter what kind. LOL I have friends who go back and forth about Ranger and Pheonix. I have fished out of both and honestly I prefer the Pheonix. Here is my take:
Cost New Fully rigged--------Value 2 years later---Loss Ranger---$70,000-------------------$45,000--------$25,000 Skeeter--$65,000-------------------$45,000--------$20,000 Legend---$60,000-------------------$40,000--------$20,000 Triton----$55,000-------------------$40,000--------$15,000 Pheonix--$50,000-------------------$40,000--------$10,000 No matter what losing $10k-$20k in two years is a terrible investment.

I know nothing about a Phoenix boat but I'll say Shipp's Marine is an excellent dealer for both sales and service. Those guys treat you like you're their oldest friend and very knowledgable on everything they sell.

My boat is a 719 but I'm glad to see you enjoyed the ride. There are still a lot of Phoenix haters out there but I can promise you that not very many of them have taken a ride like you did. It will change your mind and favorite brand for sure. They can do things that a lot of the other major brands can't and do it fast. They are the best boat I've ever been in hands down.

Got my Phoenix 921 pro xp with 250 merc pro xs in March 2013 and used it every weekend since, no exceptions. Purchased from Capt Kirk Marine in Spring TX. They have been excellent to work with, If I had an issue they fixed it fast, typically same day. Small issues I can think of: Trailer brake bad wire, phoenix lightbulbs blown on trailer, horn fuse blown, trolling motor bent shaft (my bad), screws backing out on bumper trim in 2 places, fuel leak from primer bulb. ... like i said "small issues" you get these on any boat. Now i have to say i have 1 issue: the rod lockers get wet if you spear a wave or hit heavy rain. it's a real shame if you ask me. But I talk to others with 921 and they say no problem except for 1 other guy said he has the same issue. Maybe we got unlucky? I get round it with covered storage she dries out with compartments open. However thats the issues. The pros are the ride, its solid, safe and easy to drive. I have run toledo and Rayburn in 4 footers and been airborn plenty of times, nothing broke! I can turn a corner fast and hit other boats wake like its not there. It looks awesome and I have a center console and center seat that are interchangeable and a passenger console that comes out just as easy. The windshields remove quickly too which is a big bonus for cleaning. I cannot imagine ever needing to trade up again. Did I mention the awesome ride! The trailer is nice too I had one bad tire that would not balance, they changed that out on day 2, it gets around flawlessly and the brakes on 1 axle are adequate. Sorry that was long! I am impressed by this boat. [img][/img]

Derek post a couple shots of your rig brotha, make'um droooooool. I run a Skeeter, but I have to say the looks of these boats are without question, awesome !!!!! The thing that struck me, was how MUCH storage they have, that's important to me. The layout is almost like I did it, I would seriously consider purchasing one for my next rig...

I've been in Derek's boat a few times and I would without a doubt seriously consider buying one over a Triton which I have now.

I don't think of Phoenix as a minor boat company - They are a custom builder, building a limited amount of high quality boats - I would say their resale value is as good or better than most.

I personally didn't like the interior layout on the one I looked at when we were staying at motel on Lake Fork.

Dating myself but I want a blacked out 721, gold letters, and that phoenix across the deck. I want a boat that looks like The Bandit Trans Am.

Great looking boats and the standard features seem better than the big names.

Not sure about the wavy lines on the side. Makes it look like Stratos.
