Tried Black's today in Lockhart. Was kind of let down. The brisket was some of the best I've had but the ribs were cold and dried out. Sausage was only like warm and just okay. Might have just been an off day.

Might have just been an off day. That was pretty much identical to my experience at Blacks. The brisket was near perfect - as good as I've had. I also thought the sides were above average, but the ribs and sausage were just OK. I'll make another trip for the brisket when I'm around Austin but I'll pass on the ribs & sausage next time.

If ya'll are ever driving through Kyle (between Austin & San Marcos) go to downtown Kyle & try Milt's Pit BBQ (don't waist your time even looking at RailRoad BBQ which is right next to the tracts). Milt's used to be on the southbound access road but moved downtown. If they have any chicken and/or turkey, very good...give 'em a try. Lived in the Austin area since 1972....just my $0.02 though, Salt Lick isn't anything like it used to be....not impressed with their Q.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm working in Austin for another week and a half. Ill give the place in Kyle a try. Heading to Snows in Lexington on Saturday and probably Chisolm Trail in Lockhart in Sunday. I have high hopes for them.

Just tried John Muellers in Austin. Best pork ribs, brisket, and sauce I've ever had. Meat didn't need any sauce but it was so good I had to use some. Sausage was just ok. Nothing special.

Just tried Salt Lick yesterday and thought it was damn good! The ribs and sausage were awesome and their sauce was excellent! If these other places are even better I am really looking forward to my next trip down.

Just ate at Snow's in Lexington for the first time. I think I have a new favorite BBQ joint. Brisket was good. Ribs were great. Pork shoulder was insane, probably the best piece of pork I've ever had. Jalapeno sausage was really good, great snap, a little dry but I like my sausage that way. Potato salad was good and beans were good. Worth the drive and only open on Saturdays. Got there about 7:45. They opened at 8. I was #7 in line. There were probably about 10 in line when I pulled out at 8:15 so get there early and there isn't much of a line.

Just ate at jambo's for first time. 2 on sat and sign on door say's "SOLD OUT". Go on in and find out they have a few ribs left and enough pulled pork for a sandwich. You can tell a lot about a Pit Master by his ribs. I am looking forward to going back on Tuesday for the brisket!! Thanks for the heads up about this place
