nobody mentioned this but I use a little sallys hard as nails on the end of the bucktail that I'm tying to the hook; just take a drop between thumb and forefinger and squeeze the bucktail allowing the sallys to penetrate the ends. If you use just a dab it will not wick but will keep the bucktail from flaring when you apply the wraps; you still need to make a couple of loose loops before putting a lot of pressure on the thread. works for me; course I'm from Arkansas so I could just be lucky-p-

Yep, a little spit goes a long way as well grin -p-'s got it right.
Just a matter of learning to handle materials.
Like -p- says... secure with a few wraps of loose thread and then wrap the butts...

You are correct as usual George. Most of the shops around here seem to have the Northern bucktail most of the time so that is what I find most often. I have no idea how many years I tied with that first white bucktail that I bought. I just love the way it moves in the water.

Does anyone else use a cigar tube for a hair stacker for bucktail? A few vigerous shakes in a cigar tube will leave you with a nicely rounded bunch of bucktail instead on that "cut off flat like a tooth=brush" effect for the tips of the bucktail.

Have fun with this stuff.
