How did he cite you for your wife for not having a license if she wasn't fishing?!?! Was she fishing and stopped and he possibly witnessed it from a distance.
I don't know, sounds to me like he clearly didn't realize you didn't intended to hit him in the face with your rod and was offended. I don't see the need for him to roll up on you by surprise. Clearly it seems he saw what he needed to see from a distance to legitimize making contact so at that point why sneak up on someone? This could have easily happened to anybody. Personally, I have cast in front other fisherman by total accident simply because I had no idea they had trolled right up on me and in such cases I didn't feel bad about it. Dude is lucky he didn't get a hook stuck in his face. If the general public is expected to use common sense it would be nice if those enforcing the laws for the public would do the same. And I realize this is just one isolated person and isn't reflective of all wardens across the state. Not like Wardens much? Calm down sir lol

Yep... I had just broke off on a stump and was frustrated.
I guess my wife awoke from her slumber after hearing the color chain of words coming from the bow of the boat.
I just bought that DD22 yesterday... Sigh.
I didn't even notice the game warden easing up on me until my wife alerted me to it.
He pulled up to us ( I was trying to wrap my broken line around my handle all fast and mad at the world.)
Warden: good evening
Me: hey how's it going! (Not looking up from my line nor paying attention to his proximity to me or my rod tip)
Warden: (Very angry) EXCUSE ME SIR!!!
I looked up and realized that I had whipped his left cheek three or four times with the 7'10" Skeet Reese Crankbait Rod!!!
He... Was... Mad...
Needless to say, I got the most thorough, by the book, Warden inspection known to man.
I didn't pack my wife's license on this trip so he gladly cited he for that... Totally my fault.
After it was all done, his cheek was still holding a marvelous red hue.
Did you happen to be on fork?

I must be warped. It is funny though. That someone could be that close without your knowledge is beyond me.
Had a young pup once sitting up in the lot checking everyone on their way out. His shift was over at 5. The lake was about 2 miles from his office. It was a small lake and I'm watching this guy from a distance as he is checking every boat upon departure. I've seen this guy before and he's a piece of work in the making, under 30 with a ways to go. Anyway I'm fishing along and it's a bit after 4. He is sitting in his truck waiting on me to come off the water, and waiting, and waiting. The wind comes up, the air turns cold and I just increased my trolling motor speed a bit and put on a hoodie. I can see rain is coming so I head to the dock. I get the boat on the trailer and the rain starts. I'm the last guy off the water so I'm still on the ramp incline letting things drain while I put stuff away. Here he comes and parks at the top of the ramp and walks down in his short sleeve shirt. By now the air is mid to low forties , windy and spitting rain. He wants to start checking and I tell him just a minute I'll be right with you. He is starting to shiver and tries again to check me and I tell him again I'm almost done and I'll be right with you. This guy had previously checked me within 60 days and everything checked out down to the letter. Needless to say he wasn't quite so thorough this time.

You're lucky you weren't arrested. I wonder what your reaction would have been if a game warden would have "accidentally" slapped you in the face a few times??

Me and the wardens get along pretty good....
One day, many years ago in another place, a new (young) warden came by to run an alligator trap they'd left there the day before. He was nattily dressed in a super starched uniform with all his accessories (gun, flashlight, knife, gawd knows what else) attached and shiny footwear.
When he tried to open the trap door to put a rope around the gator, something went wrong and overboard he went. Right into the black, oozy, stinky mud in the shallow marsh area.
I could not help but laugh....and eventually he did as well.
We caught and loaded the gator, and he said he had to go let it loose before he could go home and change. Covered in black mud and smelling like low tide on a hot day.

I nearly shot an Illinois GW with my fire extinguisher. He claimed that the hinge was seized up and he couldn't get it work. As he proceeded to write me up, I figured I'd better work on loosening up the hinge to avoid the $300 ticket. Shot a 20' stream within a foot his face. Ticked off by not being able to write up an Indiana boy, the SOB decided to write me a warning for not having battery terminal covers instead (my buddy apparently got a $300 ticket earlier that month for this). I just regret not having better aim with the extinguisher.

Lucky you are not writing this after posting bail. I've found Texas game Wardens in Texas to be very reasonable.
John 21:3 Simon Peter saith unto them, I go a fishing. They say unto him, We also go with thee.

One was in a 21' decked out skeeter on Fork. License, lifejackets, and a throwable and they are on their way. I tend to start getting everything out as they are approaching. I guess they figure it's not worth searching the whole boat at that point.

Did you happen to be on fork? No, this was on Toledo Bend. Hispanic guy in a bay boat with Etec 150.

A bunch of good GW stories here.
My dad must've told me this story 100 times. He used to fish Toledo Bend hard back in the day and knew one of the wardens pretty well. He said one day putting his boat back on the trailer, the warden he knew showed up with another warden who looked to be Native American. The NA guy asked him if he had any guns in the boat. My dad said that he did have a shotgun in the rod locker and the warden opened it up and saw it. He asked dad what he had a gun for. Being the idiot that he is, my dad replied "for game wardens". He said the warden that knew him started cracking up and the NA warden gave him the most thorough GW inspection he'd ever seen. No tickets or anything, but the NA GW left with a pretty mean look on his face. I guess they don't have much of a sense of humor.
