Caught out of Galveston on the jetties on the seawall using cut mullet. Used 30lb mono with 80lb wire leader took about 30 minutes to pull him in. 6ft long and weighed 75-80 lbs, kinda skinny for a hammerhead of this length but hey im not complaining. Properly revived and released, swam away happily after an awesome battle

Awesome fish. Hammers are pretty rare around these parts. That is a catch that many shark fishermen with definitely envy. What kinda hammer was it? Any pics of its head?

Good job Guys!!! nice shark!
You have a Great hammerhead. These shark are streamlined for being fast. You actually have a small young one. They will get to be 16 ft to 20 ft and up to 1200 lbs weight. They love to eat stingrays and smaller sharks. The one you caught I bet was a BLAST to catch ..good deal!

Couldn't it be a scallopped or smooth? How are you making the ID? We need a better shot of the head to be sure.

That dorsal seems to point more towards scalloped than greater, so does the relation of the second dorsal to the anal fin.

Hmmmmm? Looking at picture to picture..it really could be a
Scalloped Hammerhead by the top fin?The fins are in the sand covered so I/we can not check for black tips on fins or other fins..?Way the actual picture of the head looks it could be either???Anyway...Very nice catch!!

Someone I was with identified it as a scalloped hammerhead. I wasnt aware that there were so many different types. He seemed sure of himself but also didnt really give any reason why he thought what he thought
